Position Summary
Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking a full-time instructor of Biology to join the faculty of the Biology department. The successful candidate will support student success in biology and allied health programs by providing high quality, culturally responsive instruction and curriculum. Teaching assignments will be focused at the Sylvania and Rock Creek campuses, with a variety of responsibilities to support the Biology department college-wide. The teaching load for this position is anticipated to be primarily on-campus, but may include some teaching or work in other modalities.

Demonstrates ability and willingness to teachBiology 112 Cell Biology for Health Occupations, Biology 101 General Biology and BI 211, 212, and 213 Principles of Biology. Demonstrates the experience and/or willingness to help maintain the breadth of curricular offerings by teaching other course offerings. Please reference our current course offerings by accessing the catalog (link to PCC biology courses). Experience supporting field-based courses is a benefit. Demonstrates an understanding of how their cultural background influences their perceptions, values, and practices, as well as well as how it may influence a student sense of belonging in the classroom and their academic success. Demonstrates ability to innovate, and implement culturally responsive pedagogy using evidence-based strategies to support equitable student success across a wide range of diverse student experiences including language, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, racial, ability, gender, and other identities. Demonstrates ability and enthusiasm to work collaboratively to coordinate and build community. Responsibilities may include coordinating course materials, working with the instructional support teams, and providing support for faculty and other colleagues. Minimum Qualifications
To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
Biology Instructor:Master's degree in the subject area or Master's degree in related area plus 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in subject area.
Master's degrees in the following areas should be regarded as Master's degrees in subject area.
This list may not be inclusive as there are other degree titles that may be appropriate for the subject and related areas. The Division Dean, consultation with the Faculty Department chair will make a recommendation to the Dean of Instruction about the applicability of a particular degree that is outside the scope of this list. The Department Chair can determine the applicability of a particular degree to teaching a specific biology course.
Provisional Approval: A part-time instructor without a Masters or Doctorate may be approved if they have 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the subject area. Masters students should anticipate completing their degree within 6 months of hire. Doctoral students (without a Masters degree in the field) will have completed initial board exams, qualifying exams, or advanced to candidacy AND be actively pursuing the degree. Provisional appointments for Masters students will be for a period of 6 months. Provisional appointments for Doctoral students shall be for a period of 12 months.

A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.
Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.
* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.
Paid Leave:
1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
