DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Decision Support department provides integration, database management, application development, reporting, data mining, data analysis and metric definition assistance for all departments at St. Charles Health System. These services include operational reports, dashboards including trending data and KPIs, analytical reports, and predictive modeling, among others.

The Connect program evaluates, establishes, and maintains partnerships with physician practices and hospital organizations by sharing the use of SCHS' integrated EHR for the purpose of establishing a regional shared patient record. The Connect Program provides better care for the collective patients we serve, strengthens our collective ability to serve the community and the region and manages costs by sharing resources and creating common practice standards across SCHS' Connect community.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Interface Analyst 2 for St. Charles Health System participates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of interface solutions connecting applications and systems across the St. Charles enterprise. The analyst will have experience supporting the strategy, frameworks, enterprise architectural standards, and best practices of systems integration. In addition, this role designs and maintains data extract, transform & load (ETL) activities. Acts as the customer champion for requirements and translates these needs into interface & ETL solutions.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Designing, building, and documenting interfaces using EMR functionality, an interface engine application and other development tools.

Perform basic to intermediate data mapping and translation using an interface engine or other ETL tools.

Monitor system health and troubleshoot complex issues related to interfaces, data exchange, application integration, tcp/ip network connections, file share, ftp/sftp, HL7, web service, etc.

Write effective and efficient SSIS and SQL queries as needed.

Perform application, server and system maintenance and upgrade activities as directed.

Create test plans and troubleshoot issues for new interface engine functionality.

Work with team members to gain consensus and establish interface development standards, policies, and directions.

Provide input to systems planning and innovative technology and process solutions.

Review and evaluate end user needs and analyze interface technology capabilities for "best fit."

Translate functional specifications into technical requirements and designs.

Participate in projects and work with Application Analysts, Network Engineers, and vendors to analyze, develop, test, implement, and maintain integration points for existing interfaces and new systems using appropriate tools.

Perform analysis and troubleshooting of varied interface and file transfer issues.

Responsible for configuring and implementing integrations and AI agents for the applications and platforms they support.

Support FHIR and API integrations within the EHR system.

Demonstrate good understanding of the clinical and business workflows and processes that are supported by our integrations.

Participate in on-call after hours support as needed.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business, or other healthcare or related technology discipline, or a combination of education and experience that will enable performance of the full scope of the position.

EXPERIENCE

Required: 2-5 years of supporting interface systems in a medium-scale, multi-user, multi-application, multi-server Enterprise environment required. Preferably in a healthcare environment which includes Interface development and support.

Skills:

General
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other productivity tools and assigned applications and technologies.


Position Specific
  • Good working knowledge of Health Level 7 (HL7) version 2 message formatting standard.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming and general understanding of coding concepts.
  • Good working knowledge of TCP/IP, FTP, SFTP, Web Services, and Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
  • Good working knowledge of interface engine development.
  • Good working knowledge of interface engine server system administration.
  • Experience with LIS/HIS systems.
  • Good working knowledge of MFT and sftp protocols.
  • Experience with XMLs, SOAP, REST, JSON, or ability to learn.
  • Good working knowledge of protocols and mechanisms for secure data exchange, such as encryption and authentication methods.
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • Understands the software development cycle of interfaces and integration.
  • Good conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in department, interdepartmentally, and with external clients and vendors to articulate ideas, negotiate resolution of issues, and achieve objectives.
  • Good organizational and time management skills; ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
