What You'll Do;

As an Inventory Control Manager with Sporting Life and Team Town Sports, you will oversee and manage inventory accounting processes, ensure accuracy in inventory valuation and provide critical financial insights related to inventory accounting.

In this newly created role will oversee inventory controls and processes, working closely across the organization with Supply Chain, Retail Operations, Merchandising / Planning, Data Integrity, and IT to ensure the integrity and accuracy of inventory data across all systems at Sporting Life and Team Town.

Drawing on your experience you will lead the analysis of inventory accounting, valuation, and inventory related data to provide insight into operational performance and support strategic decision making. The position plays a crucial role in optimizing inventory accounting practices and inventory control processes across the organization.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the transition of periodic inventory accounting to perpetual inventory accounting system to ensure accurate and real-time tracking of inventory levels and costing.
  • Recommend and implement cost allocation strategies related to inventory valuation for direct and indirect costs.
  • Lead the valuation of inventory using appropriate costing methods ensuring compliance with IFRS standards.
  • Support A/P in the monthly reconciliation of Goods Received Not Invoiced and Unmatched Invoices listings.
  • Daily, Weekly, and Monthly monitoring and resolution of exceptions for all D365 (main) inventory related transactions to/from supporting Inventory sub-systems (Stores, E-commerce, 3PL, Special Orders, EDI, Invoice Matching, and Vendor Revenue).
  • Daily and Weekly monitoring and resolution of exceptions between D365 and the data warehouse.
  • Oversee inventory adjustment process ensuring each adjustment is adequately reviewed and coded to the correct GL account.
  • Review and oversee the completion of month end journal entries and reconciliations related to Inventory including; Inventory clearing; Shrink reserve; Inventory obsolescence and NRV; Goods received not invoiced (GRNI).
  • Support the annual audit preparing supporting schedules and responses to all inventory audit requests.
  • Oversee annual inventory counts including scheduling the counts with third party.
  • Support and make recommendations to Merchandising and Store Operations pertaining to all non-standard SKUs and transactions (services, promotions, gift cards, donations, non-inventory).
  • Monitor (compliance) and support Supply Chain and Retail Operations pertaining to Store and DC Inventory Control business processes.
  • Work with Retail Operations, Supply Chain, and Loss Prevention to develop, implement, and monitor Inventory Control best practices.
  • Work with IT to monitor and correct inventory variances between 3PL, D365, and EDW due to interface errors, interface rejections, and data integrity errors.


What You'll Bring;
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance.
  • Professional working experience in inventory accounting management and accounting role.
  • Professional working experience in a Retail or Wholesale sector with an understanding of supply chain processes.
  • Knowledge and experience with D365.
  • 7+ years of progressive inventory accounting or financial management roles.
  • CPA and or certifications in inventory management or supply chain (e.g. CPIM, CSCP) would be an asset
  • Ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical and business process skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including English at business level.
  • Advanced Excel skills required, PowerBI also beneficial.
