Human Research Protections (HRP) within the Office of Research is responsible for ensuring the ethical and equitable treatment of all human research subjects in studies conducted by UCI faculty, staff, and students for which Institutional Review Board (IRB) review is required. It is also responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations, state laws and University polices, as well as national standards for research involving human participants. HRP staff work directly with the IRB reviewers, investigators, and their staff to assist them with ensuring compliance with IRB requirements for the review human research applications.

Your Role on the Team

Under the general direction of the IRB Administrator and Director, provide analytical, technical, and professional support to the human research protections program, and the UCI research community by using skills as a proficient, experienced research compliance professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organization policies / procedures to apply federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and guidelines, and promote best practices. Interacts frequently with investigators, persons in other organizational departments, and occasionally persons outside the University. Interactions require the use of tact and independent judgment, knowledge of standards and best practices, and counseling to resolve a wide range of research compliance issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Errors or omissions may ultimately place research participants at undo risk and / or compromise the institution's assurance of regulatory compliance with the federal government.

Responsibilities include application of federal regulations and human research policies and procedures in the review and analysis of human research protocols; development of complex memos detailing IRB review decisions, and management of protocol review information in electronic formats.

NOTE: This is primarily a remote position. Infrequently, this position may need, or be required, to work on campus.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $77,000- $92,550 (Annual).

Required:
  • Demonstrated self-discipline and sound, independent judgment completing complex assignments.
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and federal guidance documents.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in public speaking, and writing.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive analysis of complex documents and manage complex workload.
  • Proficiency with computers, including the ability to operate personal computer software with sophisticated retrieval, storage, and merging capabilities.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented setting, to prioritize work, and to follow through on routine assignments with minimal direction.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3-5 years Of experience in human research protections, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with quantitative and qualitative research design; scientific research concepts and terminology.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) certification.
