IT Architect

Role Definition:

Caterpillar is investing in our digital future, and we're looking for an IT Architect that will own the creation and maintenance of the architectural roadmap in support of EPD. The focus of this role will be in processes and solution that would be categorized as Systems of Engagement or Customer Relationship Management solutions in support of Sales, Marketing, Service and Parts specifically focus on the Electric Power Division (EPD) business outcomes, both for internal users, Customers and Dealers.

This role will focus on processes and solutions categorized as Systems of Engagement or Customer Relationship
Management solutions supporting Sales, Marketing, Service, and Parts. It will specifically focus on the Electric Power
Division (EPD) business growth from a 5-billion-dollar business to a 10 billion dollar business for internal users,
Customers, and Dealers.

This position will collaborate closely with peers in similar roles for other Energy and Transportation (E&T) Divisions to
share ideas and engage business stakeholders. The goal is to ensure a clear understanding of required business
outcomes in the short, medium, and long term and build a business-related technology roadmap that drives
sustainable IT investment to support business growth.

The primary goal is to become a trusted partner to the EPD group, being able to articulate business requirements to a
broader IT community, establish the best solution for a given set of requirements, and articulate the trade-offs involved
in choosing one solution over another. Team members within this group are responsible for selecting a sustainable
solution that can scale as the number of users increases, is secure, and will not drive high technical debt or require
significant changes as time goes on.

Salesforce will be the core technology used alongside other enterprise solutions. This position will exploit the core
capabilities available through Salesforce while aligning to the broader composable architecture design principles to
ensure solutions in this space are more easily integrated with other enterprise solutions, such as Engineering,
Manufacturing execution, and ERP-based functions.

This role will work alongside the Divisional Architect, EPD solution leads, delivery teams, and EPD CIO to create an
execution plan that secures funding and then delivers the expected process improvements through the delivery of IT
projects.

What You Will Do:

Key areas of accountability include creating and maintaining the IT roadmap, leading the development of Architecture
Solutions in support of divisional projects and programs that are in line with business affordability levels, looking for
synergy opportunities to share development costs or reuse investment from other divisions, and developing and
maintaining Business-Relevant IT roadmaps and application evolution plans

  • Serve as the primary architectural authority for all Salesforce platforms and related solutions within the
    Electric Power Division.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and sustainable Salesforce architectures that support
    both current needs and future growth.
  • Partner with business units, product owners, developers, and stakeholders to define and drive Salesforce-
    related initiatives, including Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Field Service, and Customer/Partner Communities.
  • Develop architectural standards, reference models, and integration patterns for Salesforce and its connection
    with core systems.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, apps, and features from the Salesforce AppExchange or custom
    development to enhance platform capability.
  • Ensure data integrity, governance, and security compliance across Salesforce solutions.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and IT leadership to ensure solutions align with broader enterprise
    strategies and cloud transformation goals.
  • Lead solution design sessions, technical workshops, and architecture reviews.
  • Oversee and guide technical teams during implementation, ensuring adherence to best practices and
    architectural principles.
  • Stay current with Salesforce releases, emerging technologies, and utility industry trends.


What You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 8-10+ years of experience in IT, with at least 3 years in a Salesforce Solution Architect or Lead Developer
    role
  • Understanding of IT operations, regulatory frameworks, and customer service models.
  • Salesforce certifications such as Salesforce Certified Application Architect or System Architect (preferred).
  • Experience with Salesforce integrations (MuleSoft, APIs, middleware) and data migration strategies
  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into actionable technical strategies.
  • Familiarity with enterprise platforms (e.g., SAP, Snowflake, etc.)
  • Exposure to field mobility and asset-centric use cases on Salesforce
  • Functional understanding and ability to demonstrate implementation of end-to-end CRM solutions using
    Sales, Service, Community, and Marketing Cloud.
  • Experience in working on proposals, estimating the scope of work, and supporting pre-project activities
  • Conducting customer workshops during project discovery, preparing end-to-end Solution design documents,
    and working with the development team as per project requirements.
  • Background in Visualforce, Visual Workflow, APEX, and Process Builder with the ability to design, code,
    debug, and analyze the performance of solutions
  • Experience in designing and developing integrations between Salesforce.com and other systems using SOAP
    and REST API
  • Strong understanding of SAFe based Agile SDLC implementation and other supporting techniques such as
    environment management, test automation, peer reviews.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical, analytical thinking in all aspects of the job - technical and non-technical.
  • Ability to be highly productive, working independently and in close collaboration within a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and ability to deal with sensitive
    information, mentor and coach, and/or persuade others on new technologies, applications, or potential
    solutions.

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $217,320.00
