TRIAEM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced IT Security Specialist to provide critical IT Security support for NOAA's Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) meteorological and environmental satellite missions. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge satellite technology while safeguarding mission-critical systems that provide essential data for weather forecasting and environmental monitoring.
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting IT security activities, procedures, and reporting for JPSS ground systems operations and maintenance. This position is primarily on-site at NOAA's Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD, with some telework flexibility.

Key Responsibilities
- Information Security Management: Oversee the security of cloud and on-premises systems, ensuring compliance with Federal, NIST, NOAA, and NESDIS policies.
- POA&M Oversight: Support the successful completion of Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M), ensuring deadlines and requirements are met.
- Vulnerability Management: Run Nessus vulnerability scans, analyze results, and upload findings to Tenable Security Center (Tenable.sc).
- Certificate Management: Manage DoD certificates for users, servers, and workstations, ensuring seamless operation across all environments.
- System Impact Analysis (SIA): Draft and submit SIAs for all planned changes and implementations to Security Leads and ISSOs for approval.
- Security Monitoring & Reporting: Conduct daily security health monitoring, perform malware scans, and prepare weekly reports for JPSS stakeholders.
- Incident Response & Troubleshooting: Investigate and track security-related events, creating tickets and discrepancy reports via ClearQuest and Jira.
- Security Control Assessment (SCA): Assist the ISSO with artifact collection, coordination, and oversight during annual Security Control Assessments.
- Automation & Scripting: Use PowerShell and Python scripts to monitor and maintain system and application health.
- Team Coordination: Organize on-call schedules and oversee daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly deliverables for the Security Team.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 6-8+ years of hands-on experience with:
- Satellite ground systems architecture and IT security principles.
- Federal IT security policies, including FISMA, NIST 800-53, FIPS, and NOAA/NESDIS IT security controls.
- Security tools such as Tenable Nessus/Security Center, IBM BigFix, TripWire, Trellix, F5 BigIP, CyberArk, ArcSight (MicroFocus), Axonius, and experience with scripting (PowerShell & Python).
- Demonstrated Experience supporting NOAA and NESDIS security environments.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering and systems administration processes.
Preferred Certifications
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) - Highly Preferred
- CompTIA Security+, CEH, or equivalent.
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II and IAT Level III certifications preferred.
Clearance & Citizenship Requirements
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident who has resided in the U.S. for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge and gain access to applicable government facilities and systems.
Education
- BS/BA in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
