Role description:

Collaborate with a team of engineers to deliver traffic engineering projects in Nashville and throughout the Southeast Region. Perform routine traffic engineering tasks including but not limited to data collection and analysis, volume development, future year traffic projections, traffic analysis, alternative design development, and study documentation. Candidates will also be engaged in traffic design work including traffic signal design, permanent signing, pavement markings, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Location in Nashville, TN is preferred. Candidates will have the ability to work remotely or in office (based on preference) but will be required to attend internal and external client meetings in person as needed.

Role accountabilities:
  • Assist our growing traffic engineering group in Tennessee to deliver traffic engineering tasks on a wide range of transportation projects.
  • Work efficiently and effectively to complete tasks within the required project schedule and budget.
  • Develop proficiency in traffic design including signal design, permanent signing, pavement markings, and ITS.
  • Assisting senior engineers in the preparation of traffic engineering plans for signal designs, signing and markings designs, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) designs.
  • Assisting senior engineers with concept report preparation and conceptual designs for intersection improvements.
  • Coordinate and interface with clients to discuss technical elements of the project and present results.
  • Additional responsibilities will include operational analysis using microscopic simulation for intersections, corridors, and interchange traffic.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications
  • 2 - 3 years of relevant traffic design experience post degree.
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering from accredited university.
  • EIT with the ability to obtain your PE within two years of hire.
  • Transportation Design Experience with MicroStation.
  • U.S. Driver's License.

Preferred Skills and Proficiencies
  • 4+ years of experience
  • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or Bentley OpenRoads Designer
  • Attention to detail is critical in the success of this position.
  • Basic understanding of the use of traffic analysis tools (e.g., VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS).
  • Basic understanding of the application of traffic operations principles including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in groups as well as independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding and familiarity with MUTCD and DOT Design Guidelines and Standards (Georgia DOT and Tennessee DOT).
