Why does the job exist?
The IT Systems Administrator III serves as the OSE/ISC security officer and will provide mission-critical support to all OSE/ISC programs and staff. The position provides agency-wide support in several key areas: computer networks, data storage, backup, virtual machines, servers (application and storage), security (firewall, backup and recovery, threat-detection and prevention), and system administration. The position provides backup for overall infrastructure management and decision-making. It provides project management, design, configuration, deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, security, disaster mitigation, and recovery for all agency physical and virtual systems. This position identifies best practices that enable ITSB staff to continuously improve IT infrastructure and services. This position also helps staff the emergency cell phone and troubleshoots end user support issues.
How does it get done?
1. Ensure the security of the server infrastructure by implementing industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
2. Manage the physical environment of the server racks including cable management, documentation, labeling, and configuration of switching for console and remote access.
3. Maintain operating system, networking, and application software as needed. Resolve problems associated with changes/ system upgrades. Provide ongoing end-user support.
4. Design and implement system backup and recovery procedures to ensure they are tested and proven in case system recovery is needed. Work with vendors on developing Disaster recovery plans.
5. Develop and maintain documentation about current environment setup, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
6. Diagnose and resolve problems and concerns associated with implemented information systems, network software applications and peripheral devices reported by OSE users.
7. Perform other duties as assigned by the CIO.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
- Experience with security of the server infrastructure by implementing industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with server racks including cable management, documentation, labeling, and configuration of switching for console and remote access.
- Experience with implementation of system backup and recovery procedures.
- Experience with State of NM procurement and contract procedures.
- Experience with network software applications.
- Ability to be flexible and multitask and provide customer service to employees.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with extensive exposure personal computer and phone usage. There are extended periods of sitting. Work is stressful at times. Occasional travel to district offices may be required to district offices.
