Job Summary:

The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring a safe, efficient, and organized environment. This role involves managing lab personnel, maintaining equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and supporting research and development activities. The Lab Manager will work closely with researchers and other staff to facilitate experiments, manage resources, and contribute to the overall success of the lab's projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lab Operations Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lab, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
    • Manage and schedule lab activities, ensuring timely completion of research projects.
    • Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth operation and collaboration.
  • Equipment and Inventory Management:
    • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
    • Manage inventory, including ordering supplies, tracking usage, and ensuring adequate stock levels.
    • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs with vendors and technicians.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all lab activities comply with safety regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections.
    • Provide training to lab personnel on safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Personnel Management:
    • Supervise and mentor lab technicians, interns, and other staff members.
    • Coordinate onboarding and training for new lab personnel.
    • Manage schedules, assignments, and performance evaluations for lab staff.
  • Research Support:
    • Assist in the planning and execution of experiments and research projects.
    • Compile and analyze data, prepare reports, and contribute to scientific publications as needed.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage the lab's budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • Track and report on lab expenditures, identifying cost-saving opportunities.

Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering) required. Master's or PhD preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
    • Experience with laboratory equipment, protocols, and safety regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
    • Proficiency in laboratory software and data management systems.

Work Environment:
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and move lab equipment and supplies (up to 50 pounds weight).
    • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, or walking.
