The Lab Scientist - Spatial Biology will carry out projects based on multiplexed imaging, including tissue and cell preparation, imaging and analysis. Be prepared to use your problem-solving skills to help the team develop new solutions for spatial biology research and complete research projects. In conjunction with LMS hardware and software products, the lab scientist will assist in providing Leica customers with full workflow solutions.
This position reports to the Principal Scientist and Head of the Boston Innovation Lab and is part of the Life Sciences Strategic Initiatives team located in Waltham MA and will be an on-site role.

The Lab Scientist - Spatial Biology will carry out projects based on multiplexed imaging, including tissue and cell preparation, imaging and analysis. Be prepared to use your problem-solving skills to help the team develop new solutions for spatial biology research and complete research projects. In conjunction with LMS hardware and software products, the lab scientist will assist in providing Leica customers with full workflow solutions.
This position reports to the Principal Scientist and Head of the Boston Innovation Lab and is part of the Life Sciences Strategic Initiatives team located in Waltham MA and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Establish routine procedures for end to end workflows for multiplex imaging projects and complete multiplex imaging studies.
- Collaborate on research and development of technologies for multiplexed tissue imaging, perform laboratory research tests to help drive LMS applications development and support verification and validation of new products.
- Communicate regularly with customers, build strong collaboration networks and cultivate KOLs, establish partnerships, and continue to enable Leica's strong presence in the research community.
- Understand workflows and customer needs required for end-to-end-solutions in life science research and identify customer pain points. Communicate and collaborate with the Principal Scientist, the R&D applications team and product development to drive innovative solutions for spatial biology.
- To produce or assist in the production of progress reports, presentations, application notes and manuscripts.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- PhD in biological sciences and 3+ years of scientific research experience in a relevant field with a strong scientific understanding of spatial biology and life science research.
- Expertise in tissue staining, fluorescence-based imaging, and image analysis is required. Experience in multiplexed and iterative imaging and/or advanced image analysis is highly desirable.
- Experience with use and conjugation of antibodies, and maintaining/ordering general lab supplies, consumables and equipment.
- Knowledge of project design, method development and experiment execution. Must establish and support standard operating procedures for laboratory work. Ability to analyze experimental data, interpret results and troubleshoot problems.
- Strong English proficiency, record keeping ability and database use and maintenance required.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Approximately 10% travel is required (domestic and international)
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques
- Advanced image analysis for biology
