The role you'll contribute:
Reports directly to the Administrative Director of Ancillary Services and is responsible for operational management of the department. Has a dotted line report to the Medical Director of the Laboratory who is a MD of Pathology. Responsible for Patient and Associate experience and living the culture and maintaining engagement. Provides input into the development of policies and procedures, ensures all activities comply with hospital and outside regulatory agency standards, and monitors supply levels, equipment maintenance and budget levels. Insures proper workflow and departmental productivity, adjusting staffing levels as required. Brings ideas, concerns and issues to the attention of the VP and acts as a liaison for the department MD.

- Responsible for Patient and Associate experience and living the culture/maintaining engagement. Decrease and manage turnover, maintain high retention and engagement. Grow and develop service excellence in all activities and objectives.
- Create a strategic and operational department plan to achieve the mission and vision of the department. Understands the hospital goals and objectives and develops a department plan, complete with long and short-term objectives.
- Direct laboratory and include all lab sites, operations efficiently, utilizing tools and resources of the department and effectively support the delivery of high quality patient care.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining departmental operational budget. Maintains financial records and expenditures for supplies and equipment.
- Provide for a well-trained and competent staff through supervision and coordination in relation to all department functions.
- Investigate and respond to incident reports, gather data and resolve issues.
- Establishes and communicates departmental support for the strategic plan and mission of Texas Health Huguley
- Effectively recruits/staffs, selects, evaluate delegates and motivate employees and through actions, demonstrates what is important and assists in associate understanding the purpose of the hospital.
- Assures performance improvement plans are developed and updated to meet the needs of the department. Promotes high standards of operation which provides a clean and sanitary facility, high quality of products, compliance with health codes and recognized methods of operation.
- Allocates resources to sustain or achieve quality services. Assists employees in enhancing quality efforts within the objectives of the organization. Provides time to assess, analyze and improve quality including data collection, participation in quality teams and facilitation or leadership of teams. Ensures training needed to sustain or achieve quality services.
- Develop and administer policies and procedures according to AHCA, CAP, TJC and FHW guidelines. Review and revise these as needed to meet trends in patient services and any other regulatory body requirements.
- Manages productivity and negotiate changes in standards when appropriate; maintain staffing and scheduling functions to achieve unit objectives, cost effective staffing and productivity targets.
- Through community involvement exhibits a positive image, ensures professional conduct, pride and support of the organization illustrated by active participation in community programs, projects and professional associations. Participates in one or more programs, which support education, healthy community efforts, county or city-based programs.
- Maintain staff at appropriate level by effective recruitment, hiring and retention efforts. Assure that all staff members are qualified, duly licensed and/or credentialed to perform their duties in the department.
- Administer departmental policies in a manner that provides job satisfaction, professional growth and retention of employees.
- Authorize payroll and manage payroll expense within budget based on utilization.
- Reviews and approves all supply chain expenses on a regular basis.
- Exemplify excellent service to patients, clients, visitors, physicians, co-workers and vendors: demonstrate courtesy, personalized attention, respect, compassion and timely responsiveness to all customers at all times.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to use the proper channels of communication chain of command.

Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed
- Bachelor's of science in related discipline Required
- Master's Preferred
- Five years of previous management experience in the Laboratory Required
- Knowledgeable of AHCA, CAP, TJC guidelines
- Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment. Proficient in MS office; able to create excel spreadsheets, power point presentation etc.
- Working knowledge of electronic patient medical record.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate and spearhead meetings. Interact as a speaker with good presentation skills required.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to provide effective leadership for assigning supervisory, technical, and support personnel, and to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with various Hospital departments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates Standards of Behaviors. Ability to interact with the public and staff at all levels possessing positive communication skills.
- In depth understanding of laboratory operations, medical testing procedures and administration.
- Cerner/EPIC knowledge preferred
- ASCP - American Society of Clinical Pathologist Diplomate in Laboratory Management Preferred
