This specialist functions as a Microbiology Specialist within the Scientific Section, Division, Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA). The specialist provides review of all incoming licensing applications for Safety Compliance Facilities (SCF) needing pre-licensure inspections in Michigan. Additionally provides specialist policy advice related to SCF operational requirements, accreditation standards for SCFs, and any relevant topics from the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act (MMFLA), Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act (MRTMA), Marihuana Tracking Act (MTA), and administrative rules.
Develops, implements, and oversees a SCF proficiency testing program. Is a specialist Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and CRA point of contact with industry and other government agencies regarding all matters related to SCFs. Conducts in-depth, on-site, inspections, and investigations related to SCFs of their assigned facilities. Conduct field investigations, investigative conferences, and interviews with involved parties and potential witnesses. Produces written investigative reports, containing all pertinent information using the CRA's approved format and identify potential violations of the MMFLA, MRTMA, MTA, and/or administrative rules. Makes recommendations for closure, enforcement action, or specialist review, if warranted. Serves cease and desist orders or department issued sanctions to SCFs per CRA direction.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, forensic science, or a related pure or applied field.
Experience
Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist, including two years equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist P11 or one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 12.
