This level is viewed as a qualified, fully competent Land professional able to carry out projects independently and may assist lower level Staff Landman and Land Techs with standard and routine land tasks.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Assists and/or leads moderately difficult planning and regulatory interactions.
- Assists and/or leads moderately challenging and/or non-standard well proposals and joint operating agreements, as well as, moderately challenging title, negotiation, contracts and curative issues as necessary.
- Resolves moderately difficult and/or challenging or non-standard questions, requests, and issues
- Enters, verifies, manipulates, analyzes, and reports data related to land activities.
- Maintain and organize land records, including leases, deeds, permits, and contracts. Ensure that all documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with landowners, addressing their concerns and resolving any disputes related to land use and compensation.
- Maintains files relating to land department functions.
- With supervision, prepares and submits well proposal packages and tracks partner elections.
- Reviews and approves lease record packages for transmittal to Lease Records
- Reviews invoices, codes to appropriate AFE, and circulates for approvals.
- Prepares standard form contracts and non-standard contracts with supervision for execution and processing.
- Assigned moderately complicated or non-standard working interest ownership rights including payouts and other obligations.
- Assists, leads and is assigned various moderately difficult or non-standard curative land contracts, legal instruments and State/Federal forms required for government regulatory compliance.
- Assists, leads and is assigned moderately difficult or non-standard interactions with working interest ownership towards timely resolution of questions and disputes and owner participation.
- Interacts with other Landmen, Land Advisors, Land Managers and Business Unit Leads for project selection and execution.
- Reviews and approves standard and moderately complicated title for drilling.
- Acts as cross discipline subject matter expert in most title matters.
- Mentors lower-level Staff Landmen and Land Techs
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- General understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to land and mineral rights in the oil & gas industry.
- Proficiency in conducting comprehensive title examinations to determine ownership and encumbrances on properties.
- Negotiation skills for securing favorable terms in lease agreements and other land-related contracts.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, enabling efficient planning and execution of work to meet established deadlines.
- Meticulous attention to detail, consistently ensuring accuracy and precision in all tasks and deliverables.
- Takes ownership of projects and responsibilities, displaying a high level of accountability and initiative.
- Ability to work efficiently independently as well as effectively within a team environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of settings and with diverse audiences.
- Exemplary interpersonal and written communication skills, underpinned by exceptional organizational prowess, a consultative approach, meticulous recordkeeping, keen analytical acumen, and adept problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in relationship building, encompassing effective engagement with land, drilling, and production operations teams, collaboration with state and federal agencies, and fostering positive interactions with mineral and landowners.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Land Management, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as a practicing in-house Landman or related role in the oil and gas industry required.
- Permian Basin experience required.
Travel & Additional Requirements:
- Work Location: Work is performed at a CIVI location Monday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Fridays as business needs allow and with manager approval.
- Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager approval.
- Travel required to the Civitas field locations.
