Description
The Law Enforcement Technologist is responsible for providing support for the broad variety of technologies which are used by the Sheriff's Office in the course of fulfilling our mission to deliver law enforcement and corrections services to the citizens we serve. The technologist also coordinates maintenance, services, repairs, and changes among various vendors, other County departments, and partner agencies that provide services and products to the Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's Office technology includes, but is not limited to, computer, radio, phone communications, mobile electronics, surveillance and security systems.
The Technologist works within parameters set by the County Sheriff's Office policies, Kittitas County Technology policies, as well as various State and Federal regulations. The Technologist works closely with the County IT Department to augment IT services provided to the Sheriff's Office and for Tier II, network, system, and application development support.

Plans are administered by the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Participation in the DRS retirement program is mandatory for all eligible employees. Both the employee and the County contribute to the plan at a rate set by the State legislature.

Operations
- Work with the Kittitas County Information Technology Department and KITTCOM to manage user accounts and passwords.
- Ensure all Sheriff's technology is operating correctly.
- Develop strategies for integrating, testing, adopting and implementing emerging technologies.
- Ensure compliance with Sheriff's technology with applicable policies, CJIS standards, laws, and codes.
- Assist with the development of contracts and licensing with vendors.
- Support various purchasing agents for all Sheriff's technology needs.
- Assist with the development and support of technology policies and procedures.
- Support inventory, computer rotation and appropriate disposal of technology.
- In coordination with the Information Technology Department, plan for and respond to emergencies involving data loss, hardware failure and disaster recovery.
- Coordinate and maintain user permissions and data directories.
- Maintain video surveillance profiles.
- Act as a consultant and trainer for office staff.
- Work closely with the IT Department to ensure open and frequent communication about projects, problems, and opportunities.
Mobile electronics installations
- Coordinate removals and installations for car swaps.
- Manage siren, light bar, lighting, and power management system.
- Manage mobile data computing and peripherals integration.
- Perform basic troubleshooting services for wireless VPN, data/Wi-Fi, and radar/laser speed measuring devices.
Land mobile radio, portable and mobiles
- Create radio channel templates and perform radio reprogramming.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of radio complaints, contact vendors or other agencies as required for advance support.
- Create and maintain interagency agreements for special services and channels.
- Provide purchasing recommendations.
Telephone
- Support wireless carrier services and cell phones.
- Support with vendors.
- Support satellite phones.
- Support/test new product offerings.
Emergency Operations Center
- Work in the Emergency Operations Center as instructed.
- Install technology as needed which includes managing the EOC fleet of laptops.
- Obtain the required FEMA certifications.
Social Media
- Maintain the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office social media accounts.
Computer workstation support
- Provide Sheriff users Tier I support and assist the IT Department with Tier II support.
- Provide support services for printers, network connection, and remote site connectivity.
- Coordinate workstation replacements.
- Install licensed software for users.
- Coordinate with IT Department on network, systems, and application development.
IT services planning
- Work with the IT Department to plan for adopting future technology solutions.
Surveillance and security systems
- Provide Corrections Center control room support.
- Manage courthouse cameras as well as other surveillance and tracking devices.
- Manage door access and controls.
Typical Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years of experience with support of desktops and network systems.
- Associate degree in Information Technology and Telecommunications or Computer Science from an accredited trade school, college, or university.
- Five (5) years of experience with basic software programs.
- Equivalent education/experience may substitute for some minimum qualifications listed above.
- Valid Washington State driver's license.
- Must pass the Civil Service exam.
- A criminal history and background check will be performed on qualified applicants. Convictions may preclude candidates from employment in certain circumstances. Factors such as relativity to the position, age and time of the offense, seriousness and nature of the violation, and rehabilitation will be taken into consideration.
