Under the general direction of the IT Director - Application Development, act as a highly skilled technical lead and full stack developer to design, develop, test, maintain and support administrative and academic applications within the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Gather stakeholder business requirements, review technical and functional proposals, and implement advanced software concepts to ensure requirements are met.
Analyze, document and validate requirements for legacy applications, and convert to modern languages and frameworks.
Evaluate applications for security issues, follow secure software development methodologies, and ensure applications are compliant with departmental and University policies.
Establish and refine programming standards and documentation requirements, and ensure best practices are followed during the Software Development Life Cycle, including the use of source control, code reviews, QA/QC testing, and unit testing.
Interface with campus and third-party databases and applications via linked servers and APIs.
Configure, troubleshoot and provide support for web and application servers as needed.
Stay up-to-date and recommend new technologies, techniques, and best practices for application development.
Guide and mentor other developers on the team and assist in testing and debugging.
This position is expected to follow Pacific Time business hours, but other schedules may be permitted on a case-by-case basis. Onsite, hybrid, and fully remote work options are available.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience/training
Extensive current experience developing web applications using .NET core and Entity Framework, Vue.js or similar front end frameworks, REST APIs, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, and version control systems such as Git.
Experience working with stakeholders to evaluate current business processes, create system requirements and develop automated solutions.
Advanced experience developing secure code using secure software design practices, analyzing code for security vulnerabilities, and remediating vulnerable code.
Extensive knowledge developing for SQL based relational databases, including database design, stored procedures and performance analysis.
Ability to work with other developers, system administrators, analysts and stakeholders to meet requirements and deadlines.
Interpersonal communication skills to express thoughts logically, both in writing and orally, communicate with technical and non-technical staff, prepare written documentation for diverse audiences, and articulate complex concepts to non-technical clients.
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, concepts and methodologies, and integrate them into a workflow.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience mentoring or coaching other developers and providing recommendations for improved technology stacks and SDLC processes.
Experience as a programmer in a higher education environment and/or experience interfacing with UC Davis systems, including Banner, UC Path, and IAM.
Experience as a programmer in a medical and/or laboratory environment, including experience with hospital information systems or laboratory information systems.
Experience developing or converting ColdFusion applications to modern languages and frameworks.
Knowledge of project management techniques.
Knowledge of campus-wide and system-wide administrative systems and the ability to reconcile these systems to those used within the Office of the Dean, academic departments and units within the School.

SVM-IT provides services to the faculty, students, staff and affiliates of both the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH).
