Lead Buyer - Plastics

We are currently in search of a Lead Buyer - Plastics to join our Purchasing department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA).

The Lead Buyer is responsible for the executionof all purchasing requirements with a primary focus on ensuring security ofsupply, reducing costs and developing suppliers for NAFTA production locations

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the plastics supplier base and supplychain for assigned commodities including escalation of quality & logisticsissues
  • Lead /support negotiations with suppliers for assigned commodities to achieve the bestprice, quality, technology and delivery are achieved
  • Leadsourcing decision, in accordance to MSI Purchasing Procedures and work withcommodity buyer (regional and global) to leverage best overall landed costs
  • Responsiblefor VA/VE activities to meet customer targets
  • Responsiblefor quoting and implementing engineering change MEC, once programs go into production
  • Support purchasing activities for cross-functional productdevelopment programs as required
  • Evaluate and assess supplier's quotations to ensure commercial,technical and quality objectives are achieved
  • Utilize organization-wide purchasing policies and ensurecompliance
  • Work with Quality to develop and maintain supplierperformance
  • Coordinate the qualification of new suppliers
  • Research new sources of materials, supplies, and services makingrecommendations to reduce costs and improve quality
  • Maintain all required records of purchases, prices, anddeliveries
  • Serve as technical resource in matters related to changingmarket conditions
  • Support Finance and Global Purchasing activities byproviding purchase price variance analysis, performing standard cost review, andfacilitating cost of sales activities
  • Participation in cost reduction activities to meetPurchasing targets

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years related experience. Previous experience with automotive or electronics products preferred
  • Specialized skills in negotiation, financial costanalysis and market analysis
  • Ability to read blueprints and specificationsrequired
  • Strong time and project management, problem solving andcontinuous improvement skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (stamping, injectionmolding, casting)
  • Focus on deadlines and target objectives
  • Strong team player, ability to coordinatecross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of supplier development and sourcingin a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience with plasticparts production / molding or electronic switches is preferred
  • SAP ERP experience is preferred
  • Ability to read and understandengineering drawings, CAD files, tooling specifications and electronicsmaterial specifications
  • Advanced computer skills,including the use of Windows, email and Microsoft Office
  • Advanced verbal communicationskills, including negotiation and influencing
  • Ability to establish and maintaineffective working relationships with senior management, supervisors, vendors,and employees
  • Ability to prepare complex writtenreports and other documents
  • Ability to comprehend complex verbaland written instructions
