Lead Instrumentation Engineer Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Instrumentation Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for leading projects, mentoring junior engineers, performing detailed designs, and managing the technical specifications and procurement of all instrumentation in an EPC project. As the lead, you will serve as the primary point of contact for clients and act as a liaison between internal teams.


Lead Instrumentation Engineer Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain a strong "safety first" culture.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal teams, external clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Develop, review, and mark up instruments on P&IDs to ensure compliance with company, client, and ISA standards.
  • Specify, size, and procure control valves, regulators, and flow meters.
  • Select, specify, and purchase instrumentation, including level, pressure, temperature, and flow instruments.
  • Work with instrument vendors to obtain quotes and perform technical bid evaluations.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to issue purchase orders.
  • Ensure compliance with company, client, and industry specifications and standards for all instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain the Instrument Index and Datasheets.
  • Coordinate procurement schedules to meet field installation and project deadlines.
  • Review equipment packages for instrumentation compliance with client and project requirements.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines (Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, etc.) to coordinate design activities.
  • Provide guidance on best practices and work procedures to address engineering, design, and construction challenges.

Lead Instrumentation Engineer Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in detailed instrumentation design.
  • Proficiency in specifying and procuring instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with EPC project flow in refinery, chemical, power plant, or midstream industries.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and standards such as API, PIP, ISO, ASME, ISA, NFPA, and NEC.

Lead Instrumentation Engineer Preferred Position Requirements
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) software.
  • Knowledge of analytical systems, including Gas Chromatographs (GC), Analyzer Shelters/Buildings, and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Experience with Fisher control valve sizing software and FE Sizer software.
  • Field construction engineering experience.
