Lead Prototype Machinist
Job Summary:
Specter Aerospace is seeking an expert in CNC machining to lead its manufacturing effort. A successful candidate will leverage their knowledge of subtractive manufacturing to organize and support a small team in machining components that will be used in both ground and flight systems. They will have the opportunity to influence the manufacturing path of novel, low-cost hypersonic vehicles in a fast-paced shop environment.

Role & Responsibilities:
Prototype, produce, and inspect components for hypersonic flight vehicles and advanced combustion technologies
Program, set up, and operate multiple subtractive manufacturing equipment (5-axis milling, turning)
Conduct in-process and final inspections of components, creating inspection plans based on design requirements
Coordinate with and advise design engineers on scope, producibility, and deliverables
Manage part priority and flow across multiple programs
Schedule and assist with equipment maintenance and lab cleanliness
Job Requirements:
Vocational School Diploma in Machining/Manufacturing or equivalent job/educational experience
7+ years working with CNC machine tools (milling and turning) in a Job Shop, Prototyping, and/or high-mix/low-volume Production environment
Comfort with project autonomy and fast-paced, quick-turn work environments
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, creating/interpreting drawings, and GD&T
Expert knowledge in various tooling types and their uses
Familiarity with equipment maintenance procedures
Understanding of adjacent manufacturing processes (additive, surface improvement, coatings, forging, casting, etc.)
Experience managing a small team
Experience mentoring or training others in manufacturing & machining principles
Ability to obtain a SECRET level security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
Desired Skills:
Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD/CAM
Proficiency in Solidworks CAD / HSMWorks CAM
Familiarity with Haas controls
Experience selecting and purchasing new machinery
Experience with nickel-based superalloys / titanium and post-processing additive (DMLS) or cast parts
Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles
Active U.S. SECRET level security clearance
