Overview

The Lead Sterilization Scientist is a leader in the Central Engineering Services function tasked with solving scientific problems in the sterilization related function as well as upstream and downstream activities, developing new products, and improving sterilization processes. This individual will also lead company projects to improve new upstream sterilization related processes (i.e., manufacturing environmental controls).

Responsibilities
Provide technical input on defining project priorities and company product goals
Identify and solve department, system-level problems
Contribute technical and scientific expertise and direction to department engineers and other company business functions
Assume responsibility for interpreting data, organizing, executing, and coordinating project activities
Lead large scale or multiple scientific projects with a high degree of independence
Act as a mentor to other personnel in the functional areas
Provide technical and strategic input on managing company intellectual property relevant to area of work
Work closely with Sterilization Operations, Engineering and Facility Engineering to continue to improve EtO processes and new sterilization technology
Develop global sterilization policies and new modality processes to broaden Cook Medicals sterilization portfolio
Understanding of software platforms that monitor, control and use data analytics to continually improve company processes (i.e., viewLinc, Niagara 4, etc.)
Hands on microbiology and analytical chemistry work
Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the global organization
Must strictly adhere to safety requirements
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Must maintain company quality and quantity standards
Must have effective oral and written communication skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in collaborative and independent work situations and environments with minimal supervision
Ability to remain calm and receptive in fast paced situations

Qualifications
PhD/Masters in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or related sciences with 2 years relevant experience; or Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering with 7 years of relevant experience
A minimum of 7 years of Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals or Medical Device Industry experience
Advanced knowledge of Sterilization and the different modalities
Advanced knowledge of ISO, USP, CFR, etc. regulations
Experience using analytical skills and problem solving
Experience in communication and working with a wide variety of associates
Experience working independently and directing others toward a common goal

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Personal protective equipment including safety glasses, lab coat and gloves required in many areas associated with this position
Sitting for extended periods, utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, etc.
Works under general office environmental conditions
Ability to lift and move items over 50lbs.
Work in high security and safety environment
