We are currently seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to support our dynamic team. As an integral member of the team, you will provide accurate structural designs and will have an opportunity to assist in coordinating multidiscipline engineering activities to ensure projects are executed in an efficient, cost effective, and timely manner. Your desire to complete projects as accurately and as efficiently as possible will lead to opportunities to manage a small group of engineers and designers.

The salary for this role is based on an average of 37.5 hours a week. The estimated range is between $107,000 - $156,000 annually, depending on skills and experience.

We are currently seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to support our dynamic team. As an integral member of the team, you will provide accurate structural designs and will have an opportunity to assist in coordinating multidiscipline engineering activities to ensure projects are executed in an efficient, cost effective, and timely manner. Your desire to complete projects as accurately and as efficiently as possible will lead to opportunities to manage a small group of engineers and designers.
Responsibilities:
- Perform structural designs and calculations for onshore steel structures including pipe racks, platforms and miscellaneous equipment supports.
- Forecast labor resources and provide schedule input.
- Monitor engineering and drafting progress and provide input to progress reports.
- Review and prepare project documents such as structural specifications and contract documents while always ensuring technical accuracy.
- Coordinate tasks and work schedules to achieve the project objectives.
- Design deep foundations including driven steel piles, helical piles and cast in place concrete piles.
- Design shallow foundations including spread footings and slab on grade.
- Provide dynamic analysis for vibrating equipment.
- Provide sketches to drafting staff to produce finished drawings.
- Review and check design drawings for accuracy.
- Provide recommendations to improve design efficiencies where possible.
- Check vendor structural and building drawings against specifications.
- Prepare material cost estimates and material take-offs.
- Prepare conceptual project designs, reports, and proposals.
- Resolve engineering problems by modifying guidelines, developing new approaches, or applying existing procedures.
- Liaise with different disciplines to resolve design problems, discuss project criteria, and facilitate smooth project coordination.
- Participate in the planning necessary to accomplish project objectives.
- Follow company standards and EGBC OQM procedures including design and checking.
- Manage and mentor junior engineers and designers / drafters.
- Responsible for approving and stamping engineering drawings and building permit schedules.
- May participate in recruitment activities and provide guidance with employee relation matters.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education with a degree in Structural Engineering with at least 5 years' experience in relevant industry.
- P. Eng in British Columbia or eligible for P. Eng registration
- Experience attending and leading teams design reviews and model reviews. Input into Estimating, Scheduling, Procurement processes is required.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to use judgment in pressure situations to solve problems based on engineering guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to work with limited supervision, but open-minded with the ability to follow instructions.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability and desire to supervise a small group of professionals.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to make analytical decisions and draw conclusions from comparative conditions.
- Strong understanding and application of engineering codes and standards, as well as Canadian Building and Design Codes.
- Experience in the oil and gas industry (or other heavy industry such as Mining or Forestry).
- Experience with Structural computer program STAAD.Pro.
- Familiarity working in a 3D design environment such as Navisworks Freedom.
- Experience designing offshore structures would be considered an asset.
- Previous field or site experience is preferred.
