Your top priority as a Legal Assistant is to assist with day-to-day operations of the Legal function within Northern Tool + Equipment and to ensure the organization's compliance with legal, regulatory and internal policies by reviewing and analyzing the risk of financial data, legal documents and contracts. Your positive, professional, roll-up-your-sleeves-to-help attitude contributes to our winning culture and makes sure we leave a lasting impression.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide litigation support, including discovery-related tasks, project management, and case summaries. Intake/triage legal matters using dedicated legal matter management software. Conduct legal, and factual research. Provide general administrative support and assistance to the legal department. Assist with corporate governance, including managing corporate records, entity formations, and state filings, including maintaining a central database for all corporate governance tasks and documentation. Draft, review, manage, and negotiate corporate contracts including but not limited to vendor agreements, non-disclosure agreements, releases, and statements of work. Assists with the management of trademarks, patents and other intellectual property in conjunction with General Counsel and outside legal counsel. Prepares legal correspondence and other documents for supervisor, senior leaders, and outside legal counsel. Coaches and trains key internal partners on Northern Tool + Equipment legal policies for all legal matters including retail store incidents, customer issues, and third-party relationships. Tracks legal expenses, ensures approval and payment of legal bills. Gathers, researches, and analyzes statutes, court decisions, legal articles, and other relevant documents or data. Keeps General Counsel informed of important developments, potential problems and related information necessary for effective management. Coordinates and communicates plans and activities with others, as appropriate, to ensure a coordinated work effort and team approach.

Key Responsibilities:
What you will bring to the table:
- Bachelor's degree in business, legal studies, or related field. Paralegal certification preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm or in-house legal.
- General knowledge of legal concepts, including interpreting legal documents.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with various departments.
- Ability to actively pursue and complete complex projects with minimal instructions.
- Excellent consulting and listening skills.
- Ability to handle multiple and varied projects.
- Proficient in Using the Microsoft Office suite of software products.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of Company personnel, customers, suppliers and others.
- Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude about the company, employees, and customers.
- Ability to relate well to a diverse group of people.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to protect information that is privileged, confidential, or otherwise highly sensitive in nature.
- Certification as a Notary Public (preferred).
- Demonstrates Northern Tool + Equipment's 12 Core Competencies.
