Job Responsibilities
This is an Internal Posting, only current SCDC employees will be considered.
  • Reports directly to the Chief of Investigations in the SCDC'S Office of Inspector General.
  • Functions as the Assistant Chief of Region 1.
  • Reviews all investigative reports upon submission and ensures that reports have been completed timely and proper techniques followed.
  • Supervises day-to-day agent duties within the region.
  • Performs other Investigative and administrative related duties as assigned by the Chief of Investigations, The Deputy Inspector General, or the Inspector General.
  • Supports the Chief of Investigations with incident command system procedures and liaisons with other units in the event of an incident.
  • Assist in monitoring the inmate telephone system within the agency.
  • Assists with training programs, interview boards and committees.
  • Performs duties as commissioned law enforcement officer when required and as needed.
  • Serves on rotational on-call schedule.


  • Supervises day-to-day SCDC investigative operations and offers support for all correctional facilities in assigned area. Monitors workflow, data accuracy and overall quality, assures processes and procedures are accomplished according to established guidelines and regulations; analyzes processes and procedures and makes recommendations for changes and implements change upon approval by the Chief.
  • Reviews, in a timely manner, investigative reports for accuracy. Ensures secondary reports, statements, and other investigative material have been completed and included in the case file, and all policies and procedures have been followed. Conducts case management with Agents to ensure accurate and timely completion of cases in accordance with SCDC policy.
  • Manages and supervises agents to include hiring recommendations, monitoring, and evaluating performance, and initiating corrective and disciplinary actions to include termination. Assigns priority work projects, and reviews work in progress. Maintains records related to work time, leave accrual and usage, etc.
  • Reports to the Chief in SCDC's Office of Inspector General and willingly reviews all investigations upon submission. Ensures all investigative work has been completed and proper techniques were followed. Provides technical assistance to investigations as needed or required. Conducts timely reviews of subordinates' case files to ensure the cases are completed in a timely manner. Conducts investigations as directed by the Chief, Deputy Inspector General and/or Inspector General.
  • Responds to calls for service at the request of local agencies. Ensures evidence/statements are properly documented and preserved by subordinates. Performs other investigative related duties as assigned by the Chief.
  • Willingly assists, as needed, with planning and administrative functions for special assignments. Supports the Chief with Incident Command System procedures and liaisons with other units in the event of an incident. If assigned, take appropriate action to process projects assigned to the unit by the JTTF/ICE/US Marshall's Service/VGTOF/Crime Stoppers. Assist in monitoring the Inmate Telephone System throughout the Agency.
  • Coordinates work activities, program functions, and special events with other agency departments and correctional facilities. Assists with training programs, interview boards and committees. Performs duties as commissioned Law Enforcement Officer when required. Performs administrative tasks as directed by the Chief.
This position requires travel among assigned facilities/locations within the state. Agents are assigned a permanent vehicle for official use. Some overnight travel for emergency situations or to attend training may be required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and experience supervising law enforcement personnel at a public law enforcement agency.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

  • A bachelor's degree and four (4) years law enforcement/investigative/correctional experience;
OR
  • An associate degree and six (6) years law enforcement/investigative/correctional experience;
OR
  • A high school diploma and eight (8) years law enforcement/investigative/correctional experience.

Must have 2 years supervisory or equivalent experience, such as Field Training Officer, Team Leader, or Project Manager as determined by the Inspector General.

Must be current SCCJA Class I certified.
