Primary Duties
- Responsible for determining and providing transportation costs to sales for future production.
- Responsible for the arrangement of equipment to transport pipe in accordance with customers' orders and accommodating mill performance.
- Responsible for ensuring proper documentation, respective to each shipment is provided to carriers, customers, and other departments.
- Responsible for ensuring all invoices pertaining to shipments and intermediate handling of pipe are correct and approved per terms.
- Analyze logistics costs and negotiate with carriers for all possible modes of transportation.
- Develop and analyze logistics operational plans and schedules.
- Ensure transportation is provided by qualified, authorized carriers at rate levels used for quotes.
- Monitor the execution of logistics plans.
- Support the logistics operations side in the field, facilitating delivery schedule issues, and monitor implementation of measures taken.
- Recommend changes / improvements in products, processes and services to better meet customer needs.
- Maintain a cordial, professional relationship with customers, third party inspectors and colleagues.
- Maintain a high degree of integrity and represent the company in a fair and ethical manner to all internal and external parties.
Knowledge Required
- Knowledge of principles and methods for moving people or goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders and agency rules.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Proficient in computers, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point).
Education & Work Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business administration or associated discipline.
- Five years of experience in a steel/pipe manufacturing environment or field of logistics reflective of the skills, abilities and knowledge contained in this description.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Experience in domestic and international shipping, transportation, and logistics. This includes operational planning as well as the loading/unloading of barges/vessels, rail cars, and trucks. (Preferred)
- Solid knowledge of API 5L and other related standards (ASTM, NACE, CSA etc). (Preferred)
- 10 years of experience reflective of the skills, abilities and knowledge contained in this description. (Preferred)
- Experience with Quality Systems, audits, non-conformance reports, etc. (Preferred)
