Job Responsibilities
With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, CMTNCC, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.
As the Medical Director, you will report to the Deputy Director of Long-Term Care. Responsible for leading and managing medical and clinical services for an array of programs that provide long-term care treatment. Services include the assessment, planning and directing of policy and staff/treatment resources to ensure appropriate level and quality of medical/clinical care, the direction of medical risk management, the direct supervision of Medical Staff, Infection Control and Psychology Dept. Provides medical treatment services to residents. Collaborates with Nursing Home Administrators to ensure quality health standards and serves as a member of Tucker Leadership.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Diagnoses mental and physical disorders, prepare plans and administers treatment as appropriate. Determines and prescribes medication to be administered by nursing staff under his/her supervision. Performs admission history, physicals, and discharge summaries.
  • Maintains liaisons with residents' relatives. Provides information and guidance in treatment of residents.
  • Responsible for the planning and directing of all aspects of the LTC medical policies and programs and is responsible for keeping all providers up to date of all information shared by the Deputy Director.
  • Responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating the quality of care for all residents, providing to the Deputy Director recommendations, collaboration, assistance, and input on development/revision of medical and clinical program issues relative to population, acuity, and budget.
  • Provides leadership to all clinical personnel and trainees; developing mission focus, attending to morale, and defining requirements for all educational programs for medical staff, non-nursing clinical staff, and residents.
  • Develops and implements a Recruitment and Retention Plan to ensure adequate staffing for the delivery of quality medical services for all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains compliance as appropriate with policies covering: Cultural/Age Specific Awareness, Corporate Compliance, HIPAA Compliance, Harassment-Free Workplace, PPD's, Training, Time/Attendance, EPMS form/planning stage.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina. Completion of required residency and four years' experience in medical services programs.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience in a clinical administrative capacity.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Additional Comments
The selected candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively and a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of Long-Term Care services. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of current treatment programs and agency policies with clinical, administrative and support personnel. Extensive knowledge of principles and practices of organizational and managerial concepts. Must be able to perform MAPS and emergency care to patients/residents with cardiac and/or respiratory arrest and other emergencies. Must have the ability to use required various office equipment, medical care equipment, etc. May be exposed to blood and other hazardous materials. This position must maintain a valid Driver's License.
