Key Functions & Responsibilities of the Machining Engineer
- Conduct initial assessments of manufacturing feasibility for new product designs and make recommendations regarding equipment and tooling.
- Offer design for manufacturability (DFM) insights to support product design teams.
- Set up, perform, and evaluate CNC machining simulations.
- Deliver and defend technical design reviews to both internal and external customers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional, multi-regional teams on casting development, launches, and production improvements.
- Travel 10-15% of the time to support manufacturing sites and participate in industry events.
- Potential for significant international travel during the first year for training, depending on experience.
- 8-10 years of relevant work experience.
- At least 3 years of continuous experience as a machining process engineer, CAM engineer, or machining process simulation engineer.
- Preferred experience with high-volume production machining of light alloys.
- Experience in planning and developing machining processes for metallic castings is advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering is preferred.
- Trained in the use of CAM and machining simulation software.
- Strong knowledge of CNC multi-axis milling operations (3+1 and 3+2 axis).
- Ability to operate CAD software, including reviewing, translating, and creating designs.
- Understanding of CAE methods and related topics.
- Ability to solve problems independently, with formal training in problem-solving methods like Six Sigma as a plus.
- Familiarity with automotive components and systems, including their function and design.
- Proactive self-starter capable of managing multiple projects with competing deadlines in an organized way.
- Team player who collaborates well with others both in person and remotely.
- Proficient in using computers and various applications; scripting and coding skills are a plus.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English, including complex technical texts.
- Proficiency in German and/or Spanish is a plus.
