- Actively support and promote safe work practices throughout the mills by being present at safety activities, personally encouraging safe behaviors and conducting safety audits and inspections.
- Works closely with other managers to ensure cohesive management efforts and communication.
- Leads the development of the annual budget, tracks performance, identifies and implements opportunities to improve cost performance.
- Is a change agent in implementing philosophy, rules and approach to department activities.
- Ensures that direct reports are informed of Company activities, results, priorities and operating philosophy so activities and behaviors of members of departments are aligned with the values supported by the organization.
- Manages salaried employees through regular group or individual contact which includes conversations, performance discussions and appropriate development opportunities.
- Ensures that both salaried and hourly employees have adequate training to support activities of the department and fulfill future manpower requirements.
- Develops and maintains a cooperative working relationship with unionized personnel and officers.
- Attends and supports the daily mill production meeting and participates in other meetings such as safety, capital/project reviews, contractor performance, business review, project scheduling, budget review and staff meetings as required.
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision of engineers' activities and performance and staff development.
- Develop, implement and maintain engineering, design and CAD standards.
- Develop, implement and maintain engineering completion work package system and MOS for the engineering function.
- Support the steam plant supervisor with day-to-day operation as needed and guide supervisor in personal development and performance.
- Develop a 1- and 3-year capital investment program.
- Seek out different funding options required to execute the capital investment program.
- Manage execution of capital work and provide financial data to the senior management team for project status.
- Develop and maintain a formal project performance program, project verification process and an AR process for the company.
- Responsible for overall mill operations during certain weekends on a rotation basis.
- Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP's, HACCP principles and Food Safety Standard.
