The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for managing the daily maintenance activities of plant equipment and facility needs, while overseeing the maintenance department team. This position involves coordinating maintenance schedules, ensuring equipment reliability, and adhering to safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance standards. The Maintenance Manager will report to the plant manager and collaborate with the plant management team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with Potters' operating philosophy, ensuring compliance with safety, health, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Manage and oversee the Maintenance Staff, ensuring proper scheduling of maintenance tasks.
- Develop and maintain Safe Job Procedures for Maintenance Activities.
- Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure continuous operations.
- Actively participate in the plant's safety leadership and promote Potters' Behavioral Based Safety (BBS) program.
- Address internal customer maintenance concerns and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to optimize plant reliability, costs, and asset life.
- Understand the plant layout, equipment, and processes, and be able to troubleshoot problems as they occur, especially in maintenance systems.
- Manage daily maintenance scheduling, including safety work orders, routine work orders, and preventive maintenance work orders for a 24/7 operation.
- Oversee the storeroom inventory management, work order system, part orders, and master equipment list.
- Plan, schedule, and execute maintenance shutdowns, including coordination with contractors.
- Ensure compliance with corporate/plant policies and procedures and communicate maintenance-related issues to plant and unit managers.
- Provide leadership and developmental support for all maintenance department direct reports.
- Plan, schedule, and execute capital projects, working closely with project engineers.
- Manage contractors working on-site and ensure their work aligns with company standards and safety protocols.
- Oversee plant PLC programming and program changes, both internally and externally.
- Manage plant utilities, including gas, oxygen, compressed air, water, sewer, and fire systems.
- Maintain records for equipment drawings and related documentation.
- Manage plant capital projects and collaborate with engineering teams on the capital budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the plant manager.
Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:
- Provide weekly/monthly reporting on environmental and other management requirements.
- Work within the plant's Quality Management System and maintain accurate records.
- Identify, collaborate, and implement plant improvement ideas.
- Contribute to plant safety leadership and enhance the BBS program.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (BSME/EE) required.
- 3-5 years of industrial experience, particularly in maintenance, automation, instrumentation, or electromechanical roles.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on automation, instrumentation, and electromechanical systems.
- 3-5 years of experience managing direct reports within a maintenance department.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of plant safety systems, including confined space entry, hot work permitting, and lockout/tagout procedures for industrial equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage employees (5-10 direct reports).
Working Conditions:
- The role is based in a large glass melting plant, which involves working in a high-heat environment.
- Ability to work in both a manufacturing and office setting.
