THE POSITION
Central San, a progressive public utility, is seeking to fill the role of a Maintenance Planner (Mechanical) - Limited Duration. This limited duration position is expected to last between four and five years. The position will be assigned to the Mechanical Maintenance section in the Plant Maintenance Division.
Under general supervision, plans corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance work orders using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); screens, researches, and analyzes work order requests, establishes requirements and builds detailed job plans; assists in developing maintenance strategies based on preventative and predictive maintenance best practices; ensures maintenance staff receives timely, efficient, and quality services; assists Plant Operations and Capital Project engineering staff in balancing needs for daily output and equipment reliability through proactive maintenance planning; performs related duties as assigned.
Central San's treatment plant processes 35 million gallons of wastewater, incinerates 200 tons of biosolids, and recycles 2 million gallons of water daily. Treatment plant operation requires large equipment including multiple 40+ MGD pumps, 70,000 cfm blowers, a 3.5 MW gas turbine, boilers, 2,700 hp diesel generators and a UV disinfection system. The facility generates both electricity and steam onsite and focuses on energy efficiency and heat recovery.

Typical responsibilities include:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized course work in water and wastewater treatment, construction technology, mechanical and electrical maintenance, business, computer systems, project management or a related field.
Experience:
Five (5) years of full-time experience performing maintenance, maintenance planning and/or scheduling functions.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a valid California Driver's License may be required for some positions.
SELECTION PROCEDURE

The District also offers employees an optional Deferred Compensation 457 plan with a choice of savings and investment options.

Typical responsibilities include:
- Assists in the complex coordination and scheduling of mechanical related tasks associated with Capital Projects work.
- Plans for major shutdowns of equipment and/or facilities in coordination with Plant Maintenance and Operations, Capital Project staff and management.
- Receives unplanned requests for urgent, emergency work and Capital Projects work assistance; visits job sites and determines the nature of the problem or repair request; selects and describes the most efficient and optimal way to perform the job; identifies, determines resource requirements.
- Assembles the job package including detailed work orders, labor deployment plan by craft and skill, bill of material, parts acquisition/procurement plan, required permits, technical resources needed to successfully complete the job and coordinates with Capital Projects and Operations for shutdowns.
- Review and updates of preventative maintenance programs for all equipment related to Capital Projects.
- Ensures updates and the integrity of the CMMS database; ensures orderly and timely transition of work orders from request stage to "schedule ready" backlog; ensures accurate and up-to-date numbering of all equipment; maintains equipment history; analyzes backlog and ensures all planned work is prioritized and backlog relief measures exist.
