PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the direction of the NCO i/c Criminal Investigation Section, will co-ordinate and conduct investigations, arrest offenders, and prepare cases for court in relation to primarily serious criminal offences, sudden deaths, and other incidents as assigned.
Shall, in the performance of duties, respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned.
- Monitor the activities of other officers at crime scenes and in relation to assigned investigations as required by the complexity of investigations.
- Co-ordinate and conduct investigations, arrest offenders, and prepare cases for court in relation to primarily serious criminal offences, sudden deaths and other incidents as assigned.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, policy and procedures, and the adequacy standards regulation.
- Research, prepare and present reports pertaining to specific service-related issues.
- Work as a part of an investigative team in relation to major, protracted investigations.
- Assist other investigators within the Criminal Investigation Section and Platoons with investigative support.
- Participate in various committees as required.
- Carry out duties in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Community Safety and Policing Act, and other lawful assignments.
- Be accountable to supervision.
- Perform such other duties as are lawfully assigned.

Knowledge
- Working knowledge of all pertinent legislation and all related service investigative policy and procedures.
- Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of criminal investigative procedures and techniques related to Major Case Management.
- Thorough understanding and good working knowledge of the organizational structure, routine orders, policy and procedures, practices within the service, and human resources issues.
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Management skills.
- Demonstrated time-management and organizational skills.
- Proficient in the use of computer software utilized by the Brantford Police Service (i.e., CAD, RMS, Niche, Microsoft Excel, Word, SmartSquad and PowerPoint).
