The Manager of Accounting is considered an experienced professional in their field. The role is primarily responsible for overseeing and leading the work of a team of professional staff. The Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing various general accounting departmental functions (e.g., cash management, month-end close, etc.) with a focus on ensuring timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting. This role regularly interfaces with management of all levels throughout the organization and must be capable of using professional judgment and clear written and verbal communication to accomplish management's goals while ensuring the proper application of accounting policy, overseeing effective change management, and implementing appropriate procedures and financial controls.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including staff training, daily general ledger accounting entries, monthly accounting close and reconciliation processes.
- Prepares or coordinates the preparation of automated and manual month end accrual entries. Posts, reviews, and verifies entries posted to subsidiary records and general ledger.
- Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Establishes clear and concise quality standards through repeatable process instructions.
- Maintain existing internal controls over financial reporting and work with others in organization to periodically review, improve, and update key processes and related control descriptions
- Identifies, creates, and oversees process improvements by collaborating with management, team members, other employees, and external parties to ensure the plan is clear and can be applied efficiently and effectively.
- Represents corporate accounting team in the development and maintenance of accounting policy and procedures manual and a current descriptive chart of accounts.
- Work closely with external auditors, as well as banking and other regulators associated with periodic audits and examinations.
- Develop employee-oriented business unit culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention and development, and overall high performance.
- Other functions as driven by the businesses' needs.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting and CPA license required. Master's degree in accounting or other graduate finance degree(s) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively challenging accounting experience, including supervisory experience.
- Big 4 or large regional accounting firm experience strongly desired.
- Capable of meeting all professional standards of a public accounting firm and/or public company environment.
- Practical experience with financial services industry-specific accounting preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
- A strong desire to develop the professional knowledge, skills, and abilities of the team.
- Self-motivated with a strong attention to detail and high level of ownership and accountability.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills (ability to anticipate, challenge, interpret, decide, align, and learn).
- Strong analytical skills (ability to accurately assess existing conditions honestly and objectively).
- Strong PC skills, including word processing and spreadsheets via Microsoft Office products, as well as various business solution and custom applications, systems, and software. Must have the ability to learn and utilize custom systems and applications. Oracle general ledger and enterprise solutions experience a positive.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to report to Republic Center @ 325 N. St. Paul Street, Dallas, without the need for relocation assistance.
- Degree in relevant discipline (accounting or finance)
- Ten (10) or more years related experience
- Supervisory experience
- Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
- Strategic thinking skills and problem-solving skills (ability to anticipate, challenge, interpret, decide, align and learn)
- Strong analytical skills (ability to accurately assess existing conditions honestly and objectively)
- Knowledge of diverse business processes in a wide range of industries
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with other financial systems
