Position Overview
The Manager, Career Academy works to establish and maintain a high-quality Academy that significantly improves outcomes for participating students. This includes overseeing Academy curriculum quality, instructional excellence, cross curricular innovation, assessment and certifications, work-based learning events, and post-secondary planning. The Manager develops and maintains robust partnerships with industry and higher education partners, represents the Academy on the Advisory Board, and assists with development efforts. The Manager aids with student recruitment, including middle grades students and enrolled ninth grade students. They create, implement, and monitor staff development programs. They also develop and maintain high motivation, interest, and commitment from students through competitions, events, and external events. They design and implement a continuum of work-based learning opportunities throughout high school, including compensated internships and soft skill training. Additionally, the Manager is responsible for working closely with the DCPS Career Education team, complying with all reporting requirements. This position is a safety-sensitive position. As a result, throughout employment this position will be subject to the Employee Mandatory Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy.

- Establishes and maintains a high-quality Career Academy that significantly improves outcomes for participating students.
- Oversees Academy curriculum quality, instructional excellence, cross-curricular innovation, assessment and certifications, work-based learning events, and post-secondary planning.
- Designs and implements a continuum of work-based learning opportunities throughout 9-12 grades, including compensated internships for 11th and/or 12th graders.
- Supervises the orientation program, work-based-learning events, and field trips for students in the Academy.
- Establishes and maintains an Industry Advisory Board to secure mutually beneficial partnerships for the school community.
- Secures and administers external grant funding to supplement funding to the Academy.
- Directly supports and guides the instructional staff in the Academy to meet the needs of the students and program of study.
- Provides services and supplementary materials on an ongoing basis to support and update teachers, counselors, administrators, and community members on Academy programming, content, and accomplishments.
- Designates the relevant industry certification exams for the program of study and oversees their administration.
- Manages administration logistics, such as scheduling the exams and keeping records of exam results.
- Works with the school to ensure that the master schedule accommodates the full sequence of the CTE program of study.
- Master's degree and two years of related work experience.
- Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
- Previous exposure to or experience with urban school reform is strongly preferred.
- Previous exposure to or experience in teaching, counseling, workforce development, and/or public/private partnerships a plus.
- Ability to analyze data to inform work and decision making, analyze and evaluate available data, assess student needs, and develop and implement procedures and policies to support student achievement
