JOB SUMMARY
Provides supervision and leadership to a team of Planning engineers and technical staff. Key responsibilities include modeling, data management, and special Planning studies extending beyond normal steady-state or positive sequence analysis to areas such as electromagnetic transient (EMT) and transfer studies. Actively engages with industry technical groups and demonstrates expertise in emerging transmission system technologies. Facilitates coordination between the company and external entities, including Regional Transmission Organizations (RTO's), state agencies, and regional and national reliability organizations such as ReliabilityFirst (RF), Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises and provides direction to a technically skilled team, including conducting performance reviews, offering constructive feedback and identifying improvement opportunities
- Develops a long-term vision for the team and establishes clear guidelines and expectations, while creating an annual work plan.
- Ensures the accuracy and integrity of data required for operating company planning, including ratings, impedances and models.
- Leads proactive planning studies by monitoring emerging issues in generation and transmission through active participation in industry forums, conferences, task forces, networking events, and working groups
- Collaborates with internal teams to identify and prioritize studies and implements a roadmap to address future challenges and enhance preparedness.
- Stays apprised of emerging technologies in transmission planning and integrating industry best practices to continuously enhance Planning studies and processes.
- Builds relationships and benchmarks practices through outreach and networking with other transmission operator (TO) planning departments.
- Oversees Planning's electromagnetic transient (EMT) study services, including conducting in-house studies, managing external consultant studies and performing EMT analysis for generator interconnections.
- Provides input and develops operating company-level documents to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Supports development of transmission expansion plans/projects as part of RTO and operating companies.
- Tracks and influences standards, policy issues, and regulatory activities affecting ITC business objectives.
- Prepares and/or reviews internal and external reports on various facets of transmission system planning.
- Assists in creating and refining the capital budget.
- Requires occasional travel.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education. Master's degree and Professional Engineering license preferred.
- Minimum of seven years (7) of directly related electric transmission system planning experience.
- Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills.
- Ability to create and cultivate a team environment where employees are motivated to perform at a high level.
- Experience representing an electric utility in technical utility industry forums (e.g., NERC, EEI, EPRI, NATF)
- Knowledge of NERC standards applicable to Planning.
- Technical knowledge and understanding of theory regarding EMT, ratings and impedance development.
- Experience or knowledge in modeling, transfer studies, and dynamic studies utilizing software such as PSSE, TARA, PSCAD, PSAT, TSAT, and VSAT.
