Job Profile Summary

Provides the strategic, and operational oversite of corporate services that support enterprise-wide facility operations, to include hospital campuses, ambulatory clinics, ambulatory surgery centers, and other facilities throughout the enterprise. Conducts extensive research, data collection, evaluation, and analysis to drive continuous improvement. Strong leadership qualities, communication, and listening skills will enable efficiencies and innovation to ensure Advocate Health is at the cutting edge of facilities management.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to oversee and provide leadership for various technology solutions to support efficient and cost-effective site operations.
  • Provides review of control standards/logic with engineering design professionals during project development for facilities and infrastructure projects.
  • Monitors and evaluates ongoing technology systems operational performance to improve efficiencies, reliability, and performance thereby reducing downtime and optimizing maintenance operating costs.

Specific responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:
  • Works closely with enterprise Energy Team to develop and implement energy conservation initiatives related to the design and modification of HVAC/R equipment and building automated systems.
  • Identifies opportunities for reducing costs through system and process improvements.
  • Oversees and supports building automation and fault detection systems for energy optimization, reduction of system degradation and to minimize downtime.
  • Works closely with internal Information Services teams to support and maintain enterprise servers for technologies and applications used by facilities management in support of their core business systems.
  • Supports and partners with site-based facilities teammates to provide tools, teaching, data, and information to improve their understanding of how to navigate complex technology systems they are responsible to maintain.
  • Works closely with internal/external commissioning agents during project delivery activities to ensure the technologies designed are what is delivered to the facilities team.
  • Partners with vendor management and contract support.

Training Management
  • Provides leadership that supports a facilities training program that develops teammate growth and maintains consistency of training for specific certifications and skill sets to support a highly expertise work force.
  • Designs and directs the work of the team(s). Selects, coaches, and develops team(s). Sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate the team. Manages performance by recognizing achievement, providing feedback, and administering progressive discipline when necessary.
  • May develop and/or recommend operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that people actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations, and laws applicable to the organization's business.

Education Required:

Associate's degree in a directly related field accepted only with a minimum ten (10) years of progressive healthcare or directly related industry leadership experience, and with the expectation of receiving a Bachelor's degree in an agreed amount of time in the position.

Certification / Registration / License

Industry certifications and/or license specific to area of responsibility may be required.

Experience Required:

Ten (10) years minimum work experience in facilities functions. Includes minimum of five (5) years in a leadership role, preferably in healthcare environment. (10 years accepted with Associate's degree meeting other qualifications listed above).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Exceptional oral and written communications and team building skills are required.
  • Excellent skills in mobile technology, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, scheduling software, accounting spreadsheets, computerized maintenance management and building automation.
  • Understanding of Environment of Care / regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local codes governing facilities operations and facilities safety.
  • Knowledge of construction, planning, mechanical, HVAC and electrical design and operation.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • This position requires travel, therefore, will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Exposed to a normal office environments well as hospital / site conditions erates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Preferred Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, or other Bachelor's degree with facilities maintenance / related field strongly preferred.
