Job Description

The Food Safety & Quality Manager will be responsible for food safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance for suppliers and distribution operations, developing, implementing and ensuring the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA 204), regulatory standards, and supplier quality expectations are in place and being executed. This role is critical in upholding food safety policies, developing protocols, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain the integrity of products throughout purchasing, supply chain and distribution.

Duties & Responsibilities

Supplier / Product Quality
  • Responsible for ensuring ingredient specifications meet all FDA / USDA requirements, safety and quality standards
  • Establish and develop Hana Group quality and food safety standards for suppliers and raw materials. Review existing and new specifications for accuracy / consistency in meeting specification requirements ensuring compliance with FDA, USDA, and customer requirements. Partner with Product Development / Supply Chain / and Purchasing to ensure all requirements are met
  • Ensure receipt of required documents to meet customer requirements, sustainability initiatives and regulatory requirements
  • Work closely with Procurement, and PD, to ensure quality considerations are embedded into product development and sourcing decisions
  • Build / execute supplier quality audit program. Ensure continuous improvement of supplier performance through a roadmap, governance, KPI monitoring, audit plan, sampling control plan, and action plan. Maintain accurate and detailed records of supplier qualifications, ingredient quality, audits, and corrective actions
  • Maintain Supplier documentation and updates. Develop and implement digital systems to streamline quality control and supplier relationship management and communications (LOGs, 3rd party certs. etc.)

Distribution / Warehousing Quality
  • Work closely with distribution operations, logistics, and suppliers to maintain high standards and ensure all facilities are meeting regulatory and company food safety and quality standards - including traceability, good manufacturing /distribution practices (GMPs, HACCP etc.)
  • Implement, and maintain quality control and assurance policies to ensure food safety and regulatory compliance at all distribution centers including food safety training
  • Perform audits and inspections across facilities to ensure adherence to quality standards such as SQF, HACCP, FDA, USDA, and GMPs. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and food safety standards
  • Develop / maintain food safety and quality requirements for incoming ingredients / materials. Audit compliance of ingredients to specification
  • Understand FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act 204). Evaluate gaps and develop the plan to initiate and monitor compliance with this requirement throughout the company. Create materials to communicate to all levels of management as well as develop the tools required to obtain and maintain compliance. Trains and ensures execution of verification tasks at sites by qualified individuals when FSMA is working at another site(s)

Kiosk / Manufacturing / Finished Goods Quality
  • Routinely audits food safety practices - internal audits, supplier audits, to objectively evaluate performance and provide feedback to other personnel as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (federal, state/provincial, and local)
  • Must have the ability to initiate new program ideas plan/train for rollout
  • Partner with Global QA team to harmonize key initiatives

Qualifications
  • 5+ years in quality assurance, supplier management, or supply chain roles within the food or ingredient industry. Experience in development and implementation of FSMA Rule 204
  • Bachelor's degree in food science, microbiology or related field preferred
  • Certifications in HACCP, PCQI and Food Safety
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of quality control and regulatory standards (FDA, ISO, SQF, HACCP, GFSI, etc.).
  • Proven experience in regulatory compliance and food safety auditing
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Proficiency in quality management software and data analysis tools
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of the time for audits, meetings, and conferences
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills in English
  • Strong grasp of Hana Group standards, mission and core values
