Summary:

The Manager of Foundation Engagement will be responsible for furthering the mission of Direct Relief by building partnerships and awareness around the organization's expertise in multiple subject areas. This position will manage the range of prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship activities required to expand a portfolio of foundation relationships. It will also engage foundations, practitioners, and other audiences through high quality, meaningful interactions to foster long-term engagement and investment. This role interacts closely with other members of Partnerships & Philanthropy team and other departments to best represent and support the organization's programs and strategic initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement engagement strategy for a portfolio of foundations
    • Write clear and comprehensive grant proposals, reports, and other non-grant materials (high-level summaries, fact sheets, etc.)
    • Communicate with a portfolio of 100+ foundations to provide regular program updates and donor stewardship
    • Collaborate across departments to obtain relevant information and ensure that activities related to program management and data collection are implemented to fulfill grant requirements
    • Conduct prospect research to identify potential partnerships
    • Utilize donor database software to track actions and calendar of grants and reports, maximizing visibility and coordination with internal fundraisers

    2. Represent and champion the work of Direct Relief with foundation partners
    • Clearly understand and articulate all Direct Relief programs and activities
    • Increase knowledge and understanding of Direct Relief's programs by coordinating networking, public speaking, and other opportunities that increase engagement with foundations, practitioners, and other audiences
    • Represent Direct Relief among external stakeholders in coordination with other internal teams, clearly representing the organization's programs to build partnerships, share learnings, and identify new projects
  • Leverage information, data, and analysis to capture and convey programmatic impact
    • Implement descriptive analysis (trend analysis, data visualization, etc.) to capture programmatic impact
    • Collaborate with various teams to support programmatic monitoring and evaluation activities
    • Integrate external data (qualitative and quantitative) into both grant and non-grant materials and communications with foundations and other audiences to convey programmatic impact
    • Monitor best practices and new developments across relevant subject areas

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
    • Background in healthcare infrastructure, health technology, and environmental health preferred
    • Strong attention to detail and verbal/written communication skills
    • Ability to work with other teams and other members of the Partnerships & Philanthropy team to optimize information capture and sharing on best practices, learnings, and new ideas from foundations, practitioners, and other audiences
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and personalities.
    • Adept at developing language and information on new initiatives
    • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate and clearly explain the effectiveness of our programs
    • Organized and structured approach to maintaining a busy calendar and meeting competing deadlines
    • Experience with donor CRM systems
    • Knowledge of current monitoring and evaluation approaches a plus
