Job Summary
Work involves supervision of all GIS/Mapping personnel within Mapping Services, a division of IT Services, as well as the creation and maintenance of Shelby County Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This position maintains current related tabular and spatial data and ensures that all digital mapping maintenance is generated accurately for both enterprise GIS initiatives and ad valorem tax purposes. Assists in the coordination and management of a wide spectrum of county Geospatial information and related technologies including survey, mapping and geodesy in support of land and natural resource management and informed decision making.

Job Summary

- Manage the GIS division of IT Services, which includes but is not limited to the responsibility for the development, provision and maintenance of the following county government activities: a) Tax Mapping and the County Cadastre; b) Land Information Data Exchange; c) GPS and Remote Sensing; d) Aerial Photography; e) Geospatial Information Management Systems and Solutions.
- Maintain and manage the Cadastre, GPS, Survey, Mapping, Aerial Photography, Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Management in Shelby County that directly relates to Tax Mapping and the County Cadastre.
- Coordinate, structure and guide the development, training, education, research in, and procurement of, Cadastral Systems, Geodesy, GPS, Survey, Mapping, Aerial Photography and Remote Sensing data collection in Shelby County.
- Assist in establishing standards relating to the control of Geographic Information in Shelby County.
- Establish and maintain a county-wide GIS Strategic Plan and governance for GIS data and operations.
- More specifically to aid in the formulation and coordination of the standards and specifications for: The implementation of data exchange agreements between Shelby County and other organizations.
- Manage wide range of county GIS web services and sites. Oversee development and maintenance of GIS web services and apps in the ArcGIS Enterprise environment.
- Affiliate with national and international organizations on Survey, Mapping, Geodesy, Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems.
- Project Management and procurement of such trigonometrically, topographical, geodetic and other relevant survey operations as may be required.
- Develops staff effectively through training, mentoring, support, assessment, evaluation and feedback to ensure future success with the organization.
- Maintain a current knowledge and understanding of the latest trends, best practices, and technologies relating to GIS operations.
