Scope of work

Provides leadership, direction, and operational management of the nursing central staffing program at Corewell Health East Michigan to create and improve initiatives aimed at optimizing resource allocation and staff flexibility. Maintains strong knowledge of staffing data and technologies to support nursing leaders in advancing staffing and scheduling practices. Oversees nursing resource allocation, new graduate RN float pool program and resource center expansion. Direct supervision of central staffing office team and staffing program team members.

REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire into the role.

Essential Functions
  • Hires and develops Central Staffer team and formalizes central staffing office operations, processes, and procedures, including staffing allocation and badging / time & attendance process. Assumes day-to-day accountability for the allocation of nursing resources by direct supervision of assigned staff and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services that support optimal resource allocation. This includes effective utilization of workforce, facilities, and equipment. Participates, facilitates staff involvement, and integrates advocacy in the development and review of policies, procedures, programs, and guidelines based on evidence-based practice, research findings, and Spectrum Health mission, vision, and values.
  • Manages the new graduate RN resource pools across Corewell Health East Michigan including centralizing hiring and expanding both pool size and unit type. Collaborates with nursing leadership on team member placement, education, and development.
  • Collaborates with director and resource center manager(s) and department analyst(s) to develop and maintain tools and metrics to continuously monitor and balance supply and demand of nursing labor resources. Participates in and/or facilitates performance improvement initiatives. Support quarterly position control and schedule review with Corewell Health East Michigan nursing leaders. Facilitate staffing lookahead across all staffing groups/entities for both weekly and long-range schedule review, leading efforts to standardize reports, report outs and processes across all Corewell Health East Michigan.
  • Assists director to plan, prepare, implement, monitor assigned areas' operational and capital budget to ensure sound fiscal management consistent with the goals of Corewell Health. This includes resource allocation to meet productivity targets and patient care needs and assists in development of programs and collaborative strategies to enhance growth and revenue for assigned area.
  • Creates a climate of effective communication and respect for diversity in all interactions. Facilitates an environment of caring and collaborative relationships among disciplines and departments. Collaborates with director, peers, and staff to create and execute a vision for change that mobilizes, encourages, and unifies inter-professional and practice group teams. Develops, maintains, and evaluates a professional practice environment that empowers and supports staff participation by encouraging shared decision-making, accountability, and autonomy in nursing practice. Serves as a role model, mentor, and expert to staff, colleagues, and students.
  • Encourages an environment supportive of nursing research. Supports an environment that promotes evidence-based, clinically effective, nurse-sensitive patient outcomes and other health care outcomes for assigned area. Supports a continuous learning environment to ensure on-going education and development opportunities for staff based on populations served, professional practice, innovative technology and/or required skills. Assists in the identification of trends and competencies in nursing practice.
  • Manages the activities of professional and support staff. Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Fulfills supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the departmental policies, organization philosophy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning and assigning work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; initiates personnel actions.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
  • Master's Degree nursing, healthcare administration, business administration or related field Preferred.
  • Three years of related clinical nursing experience Required.
  • Three years of relevant supervisory experience Required.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
