Position Summary:
The Manager of Category Performance Improvement will play a key role in shaping data-driven category strategies to drive growth, enhance profitability, and improve productivity of our assortment. Through holistic category reviews, this person will collaborate across teams to analyze market trends, assess vendor and product performance, and develop actionable plans that improve business outcomes. The ideal candidate will bring analytical rigor, strategic insight, negotiation experience, and the ability to partner effectively across functions to deliver results
Responsibilities:
1. Deliver strategic insights: Build and lead category review process in collaboration with Marketing, including assortment benchmarking, vendor negotiations, and private label assortment and strategy
2. Provide analytical rigor: Perform quantitative analysis, develop models, and support creation of dashboards (using tools like PowerBI and Excel) to assess category performance (profitability, space insights) and vendor funding
3. Navigate ambiguity: Be comfortable driving decision-making with incomplete information and coming up with creative solutions to navigate data limitations and gaps
4. Negotiate: Work with Marketing leadership to negotiate annual CMA funding from national brand vendors, by identifying points of leverage and participating actively in vendor meetings to drive incremental improvement year-over-year
5. Collaborate cross-functionally: Proactively reach out to different functions including Finance, Sourcing, Field Operations, and IT to drive execution and ensure value is realized
6. Build strong partnerships: Cultivate trusted relationships with internal teams and supplier counterparts at multiple levels, and be proactive about seeking out opportunities to collaborate to deliver value
7. Manage change: Identify and test new approaches to improve category profitability, leveraging 'Test & Learn' methods to pilot strategies before full implementation
Working Relationships:
Collaborates across marketing, finance, supply chain, store operations, and related teams to align and execute category performance initiatives.
Requirements:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Marketing, or a related field
Preferred Education:
Master's degree preferred
Minimum Experience:
5+ years in category management, marketing, or a performance improvement role, ideally within retail or consumer packaged goods (CPG) sectors
Preferred Experience:
7+ years of experience. Proficiency with data analytics tools such as PowerBI and familiarity with retail marketing strategies is beneficial

Soft Skills:
Travel: Ability to travel independently 5%.
Hours & Conditions: Monday - Friday standard business hours (8:30am-5pm) with flexible start and end time. In-office setting, with flex for one day work from home
Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds
