The Manager of Teacher Residency supports the execution of the Teacher Residency Program for KIPP SoCal, in collaboration with the Director of Teacher Residency. The Residency Manager role will include faculty member duties such as co-teaching courses online and in person every week to teacher candidates and teacher mentors, collaborating on curriculum development with other partner directors, as well as providing individual coaching to support and create excellent teachers.

This is a full-time position beginning July 1, 2025. The role requires considerable time in our schools and at our office in Downtown LA. There is also some opportunity to work at home or a LA location remotely, but being in our schools with Residents is key the success of the role.

Roles and Responsibilities
    • In collaboration with the Director of Teacher Residency, co-designs and facilitates group instruction for all Residents each week based on best practices in adult learning and teacher education, working very closely with Alder GSE to align training to meet the needs of the Residents in the region.
    • Engage in collaborative, cross-regional work with a spirit of innovation and adventure, helping to write the next chapter in teacher education.
    • Collaborate with the KIPP SoCal Teaching and Learning Team to support the implementation of effective teaching practices within the residency and across the network
    • Facilitate excellent site visits that foster Resident and Mentor growth.
    • Supervise, manage, and support Residents through the Residency year.
    • In collaboration with the Director of Teacher Residency, design and facilitate group instruction for all Mentors each month and provide ongoing coaching and support.
    • Participate in relevant GSE activities. For example, the Manager will join at least one retreat with other partner directors, join director rounds, and participate in various professional development opportunities.
    • Promote the growth of the Residency (including professional writing activities).
    • Support and collaborate with principals who work with Residents.
    • Collaborate with KIPP SoCal and Alder GSE to recruit, select, and match an excellent Resident/Mentor cohort each year.
    • Travel as necessary.
    • Co-plan and run summer Mentor-Resident Orientation and co-teach Resident Seminar in the summer and during the school year.
    • Participate in weekly Residency team meetings, Leadership Retreats, all Resident selection, assessments, and other events as a primary leader in new teacher development at KIPP SoCal Public Schools
    • Demonstrate knowledge of Alder GSE and KIPP SoCal missions, visions, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
    • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.


Qualifications
    • Experienced in supporting highly effective and Master's level teachers and new (resident) teachers
    • Deep knowledge in curriculum, instruction and adult learning
    • Excellent organizational, time management and follow-up skillsHigh sense of urgencyDemonstrated ability to handle multiple projects concurrently
    • Ability to work independentlyAbility to handle confidential and sensitive issues with diplomacy and even-handedness and ability to work effectively with teammates of all levels
    • High level of commitment to KIPP SoCal models, approaches to project-based learning, and student-centered pedagogy
    • Proven leadership skills with exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships
    • Minimum educational level:
    • Master's degree or higher, preferably in education
    • Experience required:
    • 5+ years working in K-12 public education
    • Experience observing and coaching teachers; experience coaching other coaches preferred
    • Experience managing and delivering professional development
    • Possession of a valid Teaching credential highly preferred Teacher Residency experience strongly preferred
    • Teacher Residency experience strongly preferred


Compensation
    • KIPP SoCal Public Schools offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The salary range for this position is $72,760 to $109,140. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint of $90,950 depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budget allocated for this role.
