Position Summary Description

Effectively leads, manages and supervises individuals and groups to ensure the timely, effective and efficient preventative and repair maintenance of combined cycle power facilities and peaking facilities, systems and equipment through sound direction, goal setting, planning and organization and application of best practice management techniques and practices.

WORK LOCATION: Shady Hills Energy Center in Spring Hill, FL.

Essential Functions
  • Directly supervises Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Technicians, Technical Services Coordinator, and Procurement/Inventory Control Technician to assure that the plant is maintained in an environmentally compliant, safe, and efficient manner. Periodically reviews performance against expected procedural compliance to ensure proper procedures are followed. Review and approve plant maintenance and purchasing/inventory procedures
  • Provides a safe and productive work environment for team members congruent with Seminole's desired culture and in full support of Seminole's purpose, core values, core competencies and organizational goals.
  • Participates directly with the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operating materials) team and leads the MRO team for the site.
  • Monitors and approves all change requests for warehouse inventory.
  • Works with Shift Supervisors and Maintenance Planner to forecast workload and detail plan up to three years in advance. More generalized 5-, 10- and 20-year planning is undertaken.
  • With the OEM, monitors, implements, and enforces LTSA agreements, up to and including participation in outage preparatory meetings, establishment of work scope, scheduling of outages, outage supervision and evaluation of OEM performance.
  • Implements, maintains and enforces the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) program for all contractor work performed on site.
  • Acts as SECI representative in direct negotiations with contractors and vendors.
  • Travels to offsite locations and act as SECI's technical expert with concern to plant equipment inspection, teardown and repair.
  • Collaborates with different divisions within SECI, acting as a system expert to assist in evaluation of possible future power equipment purchases.
  • Budget:
  • Develops and delivers maintenance budget including, but not limited to straight time and overtime hourly labor, outside services, supplies (lubricants, etc.) and repair parts. Presents O&M budget to the Director of Generation Resources-SSW for approval. Reviews the work accomplished and the expenditures compared to the work plan and budget to determine level of performance and takes corrective action as necessary throughout the year.
  • Develops a long-term Plant maintenance plan with an emphasis on efficiency, cost control, asset preservation and plant improvement while transitioning to a "condition-based maintenance" program.
  • With the Director of Generation Resources-SSW, the Operations Manager, Dispatch and Plant Engineers, plan and schedule short and long-term equipment operations & maintenance activities to maintain availability, prevent forced outages and support plant goals.
  • Works with Shift Supervisors and Maintenance Planner to develop and implement outage scope, schedules and budget. Responds to forced outages when necessary.
  • Evaluates, approves and administers training programs for maintenance technicians as provided by the plant.
  • Effectively manages bargaining unit employees to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the applicable labor agreements.
  • Helps to ensure that the morale and motivation of plant personnel is maintained at a high level at all times with a push toward promoting employee ownership and buy-in.
  • Makes recommendations to hire, fire, discipline, promote or demote employees.
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance.
  • Identifies engineering resources, vendors, contractors and power companies with whom to network, collaborate and leverage as resources for the plant.
  • Conducts second level employee complaint meetings. Participates in consensus forming with other management and HR representatives, presents proposed resolutions to employees.
  • Approves employee requests for paid time off and changes in work schedule.
  • Projects year-end maintenance cost based on trends and occurrences. Assists the Manager of Operations and the Director of Generation Resources-SSW with explanations of variations from budget.
  • Jointly with the Manager of Operations, investigates unplanned events and resolution of same including reporting requirements.
  • Provides short-term relief coverage for the Manager of Operations and Director of Generation Resources-SSW
  • Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form as applicable and directed. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and the context of your duties and responsibilities attendant to your designation in the SOM.
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.


Qualifications and Education Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related degree or equivalent training and/or experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for a degree based on two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education. Ten (10) years' experience in operations and maintenance of a power plant with a history showing a continuing increase of responsibility during that time. Combustion Turbine based power generation equipment maintenance experience is preferable. Experience with management of bargaining unit employees and OEM LTSA (long term service agreements) preferred.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to follow established protective measures including, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Working Conditions

Some travel and work outside of normal business hours. May be called on to work extended hours, night and weekends, as plant conditions and events require. Occasional travel is required for training, inspection of other plants or inspection of equipment manufacture or repair in outside facilities. While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment. Expected to be able to access all areas of the plant and equipment.
