WORK SCHEDULE
40 hours per week, Day Shift
Position oversees multiple locations: Harborview Medical Center, PSB, Hobson Place, Pioneer Square, UW Medical Center Montlake and Northwest; and remote/teleworkers
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Manage multiple support functions within Patient Access Services operations at UW Medicine; with delegated authority, position has responsibility for planning, organizing, executing, controlling and evaluating activities

Areas of coverage may include emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, transportation, rehab, therapies, nursing home placement, home health care/durable equipment, outpatient surgeries, clinical visits, and specialized procedures; also verifies L&I, Crime Victims and other coverages
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The UW Medicine Insurance Eligibility and Counseling Services Department (IECS) functions in assisting patients to apply for appropriate funding/insurance; obtaining and verifying the insurance coverage and benefits for facility and professional services, which may include emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, transportation, rehab, therapies, nursing home placement, home health care/durable equipment, outpatient surgeries, clinical visits, and specialized procedures; also with application and verifying L&I, Crime Victims and other coverages.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage applicable Patient Access Services Supervisors that oversee UW Medicine Financial Counseling Services; work with them to plan and schedule resources to meet timely and complete financial counseling processes as well as achieve departmental goals including registration accuracy
Monitor department daily work distribution, including Epic work queues, scheduled appointments, and phones; utilize dashboards and metric tracking tools to monitor compliance of service level agreements and regulatory related requirements
Prepare work measurement criteria and manage enforcement of productivity, quality, and performance standards; monitor and evaluate staff performance including completion of annual evaluations
Review and approve personnel decisions within the department; conduct staff meetings and ongoing training within the department
Identify, develop, implement and maintain operating procedures, which are consistent with effective internal control practices, compliance standards and Medical Centers' policies. Identify training, procedural, and issues requiring resolution
Identify problems and recommend improvements or modifications of Patient Access Services operating tools; monitor payroll functions for timely and accurate completion; conduct applicable payroll and timekeeper training
Monitor the progress, measure success and report on assigned Patient Access Services projects; support operating and capital budgets when applicable; approve and monitor expenditures
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business or other field and/or Master's degree in Health Care or Business Administration or other related field of study
4-5 years' experience in healthcare patient access, registration, financial counseling or other related healthcare experience
Management, leadership, supervisory and program management skills demonstrated by continuing professional growth; UW Supervisory Skills Certificate, CHAM, or applicable professional certification is preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
