What is my role?
As an Operational Accounting Manager, you'll oversee daily accounting operations and be responsible for key areas such as accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR) and Treasury, while working to enhance accounting procedures and internal controls. This individual will be working closely with the Controller to enhance month-end close procedures, streamline processes and ensure accuracy in financial reporting. You'll work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, collaborating with various departments and senior leadership to help support the company's strategic goals. This role requires leadership experience and an ability to manage a high-performing accounting team.

What is my role?

What You'll Do
- Provide leadership and mentorship to the operational accounting team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee and manage daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, and inventory accounting (3-way matching process).
- AR cash receipts are posted weekly
- Proof of review of AP cash disbursements. Consists of triangulation of AP aging versus Cash flow versus AP payment selection versus outbound cash.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes for AR, AP, and the reconciliations to general ledger.
- Manage relationships with internal teams (Order Management, Sales, Inventory Control) and external partners (factors, lenders) to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency in financial systems and reporting.
- Transition AP cash disbursement process to ACH payments.
- AR chargeback reporting metrics.
- Serve as primary back up for Treasury functions, such as daily bank statement updates, preparation of daily retail collection reports, and submit weekly/monthly borrowing base certificates.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries.
- Collaborate with the finance team on factoring and asset-based lending (ABL) processes.
- Improve financial processes in a high-paced environment.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership, offering insight into financial performance, budget variances, and forecasts.
- Implement and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets and enhance operational efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across financial processes and systems, improving efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage factoring and/or asset-based lending (ABL) processes as necessary.
- Conduct various financial analyses to support business initiatives and strategic planning.
- Manage and develop the Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) teams, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in all transactions.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize financial operations in a fast-paced environment.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills to create complex financial models and reports.
- Lead special projects related to financial system improvements and process optimization.
- Support external audits and assist with financial audits and inventory valuation assessments.
- Analyze P&L historical trends, variance analysis versus plan versus forecast and/or versus prior year.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable regulations.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Coordinate with external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate financial audits.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience with a strong focus on AP and AR.
- 3+ years in a management role.
- Apparel, consumer goods, and/or manufacturing industry experience is a big plus.
- Advanced level of Excel proficiency is required; experience with AS400 or similar ERP systems is a plus.
- Experience with factoring and/or Asset-Based Lending (ABL) is a plus
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Consistently have demonstrated strong critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and ownership.
- Proven ability to drive process improvements and implement efficient accounting procedures.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team of accounting professionals in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a dynamic, growth-oriented company.
- Experience managing Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable is required. Knowledge of inventory accounting is a big plus.
