Operations Development Manager (Mizkan America, Inc. Stockton Ca-Tomato Processing) Primary Duties (During Season) Leads performance management, including identification and communication of critical success factors and key performance indicators. Accountable for achieving forecasted financial and operating performance targets. Drives continuous safety, quality, cost, and compliance improvement based on current Best Practices. Ensure compliance and perform all duties in accordance with all safety, environmental, food, local, state and federal rules and regulations. Oversees Maintenance Crew ensuring facility is operating at peak performance Primary Duties (Off Season) Executes assignments as directed by management with adherence to time lines and budgets. Directly manages maintenance crew and directs them thru the Plant Rebuild Process Partners with corporate and plant management teams to ensure the generation of detailed scopes of work, effective project generation and implementation upon approval. Provides engineering expertise in the areas of raw material and product handling, processing and packaging. Conducts engineering studies as assigned on new and existing manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling and materials to optimize production efficiencies, minimize waste/scrap and ensure quality standards and safety requirements are met. Recommends methods, materials, and layouts for improvements based on manufacturing needs and capabilities. Develops detailed project submittals with accurate cost generation for project submission, ROI analysis and approval consideration. Works with plant maintenance and contractors to generate costs to complete installation and startup of projects. Performs problem solving studies for root cause analysis determination, develops recommendations and resolves manufacturing problems identified within plant operations. Supervises and directs other project lead people where appropriate and controls outside contractors relative to plant policies and scope of work. Tracks capital expenditures for adherence to approved project spending limits. Interface with OSHA, EPA, BRC and other regulatory and 3rd party agencies as required. Assist management in developing, implementing and maintaining annual engineering budget and 5-year plans. Additional Contributing Duties Provides leadership in developing, communicating and implementing operating strategies and goals for the facility. Help champion, support and role model the Behavioral Based Safety programs and practices throughout operations in partnership with other Department Heads and Safety Supervisor. Provides overall leadership in managing, coaching and developing Manufacturing Staff Provides guidance and leadership directly to supervisors/salary non-exempts/union hourly/temporary workforce within the department. Contributes to the process of managing the capital projects and cost reductions process. Ensure positive relationships with key strategic external customers. Il. Position Responsibilities (Expected Work) Ensures labor management scheduled according to Plant Demands Makes sure Plant is ready to process Tomatoes on "Opening Day" Works with other departments making sure hourly staff is trained based on their job assignment Executes daily/weekly staff performance reviews by providing constant feedback Tracks key performance indicators on an ongoing basis; identifies and communicates issues to senior management and implements appropriate corrective action to deliver departmental results. Partners with Plant Associate Finance Manager and Plant Manager to develop the Annual Operating Plan budget for the department. Closely monitors and controls departmental costs, including labor and overtime; adjusts as necessary to meet budgetary guidelines Direct interaction with the Quality Manager to Facilitate and/or direct resolutions as it relates to food safety and quality Challenges Plant / manufacturing environment, subject to temperature swings, climbing stairs, and movement throughout a large plant setting. During the fresh fruit processing season (July-October), extended work hours and increased time on the plant floor Understanding Mizkan America, Inc. Policies, State, Federal and other legal requirements, and working with site personnel ensuring compliance to the requirements. Inspire and motivate individuals to perform work for 90-100+ day tomato pack season. Drive changes in the plant via Continuous Improvement projects to improve efficiencies, reduce costs, make right the first time, etc. Schedule-must be able/flexible to support multiple shift manufacturing operations. Must build and leverage positive, cross-functional relationships to address identified gaps and implement best practices. Works with Logistics Manager to set production rates for Planning (Annual/Weekly) Education: BS in Engineering, Experience: 5 to 10 years (minimum) demonstrated experience managing a large, complex Food manufacturing facility. 5 to 10 years (minimum) demonstrated manufacturing experience in roles of increasing responsibility. Demonstrated (general) primary food processing/aseptic/evaporator experience. Thorough knowledge of effective management and supervisory methods. Ability to support and effectively deploy change management. Broad knowledge of safety, environmental, quality, and employment systems, procedures, and rules and regulations Technical skills in engineering, project development, and costing.
