GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Manager, Store Payroll will lead activities that support store payroll expense planning and management across our 2,200+ Ross and dd's Discounts stores. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly visible team that oversees the entire store payroll budget that supports and generates $21B+ in annual sales. The Store Payroll team not only partners with corporate and field leadership to ensure that our stores are successfully positioned to deliver on the business needs of today, but also focuses on continuous improvements, which will help our store operations adapt to the latest customer shopping needs, and are positioned to meet the needs of the business tomorrow. The role will focus on all facets of store payroll, including but not limited to, budgeting/forecasting store-level labor demand drivers (sales, transactions, units, etc.), wage rates for all store positions (retail associates, store management, etc.), and performance reporting and variance analysis. This position will report to the Director, Store Payroll but will also frequently interact with the broader Store Finance and Store Operations organization.
The base salary range for this role is $108,800 - $165,950. The base salary range is dependent on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, qualifications, relevant education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards vary by position and location.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Budgeting & Forecasting
Lead the 5-year planning and annual store payroll budgeting processes. Build budget models that accurately predict both the amount and timing of store payroll costs by leveraging an understanding of current and future business priorities, labor demand drivers (sales, transactions, units, etc.), and the internal/external wage rate environment.
Support the development of store-specific monthly sales and payroll plans based on forecasted labor demand drivers and prevailing wage rates while adhering to organizational financial targets.
Quantify and coordinate store payroll forecast updates with FP&A and Accounting teams based on changes in business conditions and/or priorities.
Payroll Allocation and Performance Reporting
Lead the monthly payroll allocation process and set the weekly payroll budget for each store across our entire 2,200+ store footprint, based on the latest business trends, field input, and budget targets.
Own and drive store payroll performance analysis (daily, weekly, and monthly) to dissect and quantify payroll variance drivers vs. targets. Regularly partner with internal and external stakeholders to proactively identify potential operational issues and/or challenges, and recommend actions to course correct, as appropriate.
Perform regular and ad-hoc wage rate analyses to understand variances by store, state, and operational regions. Leverage insights to drive in-store execution of wage rate control best practices and provide updated forecasts for monthly payroll plans.
Generate quarterly Board schedules and provide executive-level insights on drivers of payroll variance versus budget.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree required (preferably in an analytical field)
Strong candidates will have a minimum of 7 years of post-college experience, preferably with another retailer or management consulting firm
Strong analytical ability - must be able to design/frame analysis to answer specific questions; be able to synthesize large volumes of data; be able to error check and reconcile own work as well as the work of others
A clear understanding of basic financial, statistical, and economic concepts
Excellent communication skills - must be able to clearly communicate results and implications of analysis in both verbal and written (PowerPoint) forms
Strong organizational and project management skills - must have demonstrated ability to implement and manage strong control and reporting processes; must be able to own, direct, manage, and drive a project from inception to implementation, with course corrections where necessary
Ability to build effective relationships with a wide variety of internal stakeholders, including store and field leadership. Must be able to listen, understand and communicate with multiple levels from peers to Executives
Strong fundamental business technical skills - must be Excel and PowerPoint proficient and have an ability to learn new business process software applications (Hyperion, Microstrategy, Flash Sales).
Ability to cope with pressure, tight deadlines and changing priorities
Must be trustworthy with confidential data and other information
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work. #LI-Hybrid
