Position Overview:
MP Materials (the "Company") is the largest producer of rare earth materials in the Western Hemisphere. The Company, which is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, owns and operates the Mountain Pass Rare Earth Mine and Processing Facility ("Mountain Pass"). Mountain Pass is located 50 miles south of Las Vegas and is the only rare earth mining and processing site of scale in North America. The Company is also constructing a rare earth metal, alloy and magnet manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, Texas, where the Company anticipates manufacturing permanent magnets. Certain rare earth elements serve as critical inputs for the rare earth magnets inside the electric motors and generators powering carbon-reducing technologies such as hybrid and electric vehicles, wind turbines, drones, defense systems, robotics and many other high-growth, advanced technologies.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing tax reporting and compliance for the Company. Specific focus will be on the provision for income taxes, federal and state income taxes, tax incentives and credits, and tax planning. The position will interact with the leadership team, various internal departments, and external auditors.

The Tax Manager will be responsible for managing tax reporting and compliance for the Company. Specific focus will be on the provision for income taxes, federal and state income taxes, tax incentives and credits, and tax planning. The position will interact with the leadership team, various internal departments, and external auditors.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare the quarterly and annual tax provision under ASC 740.
- Prepare income tax disclosures and footnotes in alignment with SEC and US GAAP requirements.
- Adhere to internal controls and financial procedures in compliance with SOX.
- Plan and manage the preparation of federal and state income tax returns and sales & use tax returns.
- Assist with ongoing compliance requirements for incentives under the Inflation Reduction Act.
- Interpret and research applicable implications of tax laws and the U.S. tax code.
- Manage various tax projects, including property taxes, sales and use taxes, and other tax-related topics.
- Perform research, review, and prepare technical tax memorandums.
Other Functions:
- Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operational teams to gather data for tax reporting and tax compliance.
- Partner with legal, finance, and operational teams to provide tax guidance on business initiatives and transaction related activities.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks.
- Identify areas of improvement of internal processes.
- Manage and respond to tax notices from federal and state tax authorities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in corporate tax, preferably in a public company or Big 4 firm.
Desired Qualities:
- Experience with public companies required and prior exposure to income tax provision, SOX, and other areas specific to public companies.
- Excellent theoretical understanding and practical application skills of accounting.
- Excellent research skills and experience using CCH, BNA or other research software.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and international tax laws and compliance.
- Proficient in tax software and financial systems (e.g., SAP, Corptax or OneSource).
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively leverage technology to optimize processes, solve problems, and enhance efficiency.
