Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is looking to add to our Underwriting leadership team and has a new opportunity for a Manager Underwriting Quality & Tools. This position leads a specialized team responsible for ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and innovation of underwriting systems and processes. This role is pivotal in developing and maintaining underwriting quality assurance frameworks, streamlining systems, and fostering cross-functional collaboration to support the organization's strategic goals.

Compensation
$112,800 - $134,000
Exempt Grade 18
- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas offers excellent competitive compensation with the goal of retaining and growing talented team members. The compensation range for this role is a good faith estimate, it is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid. All offers presented to candidates are carefully reviewed to ensure fair, equitable pay by offering competitive wages that align with the individual's skills, education, experience, and training. The range may vary above or below the stated amounts.
What you'll do
- Leadership and Oversight: Manage a team of analysts and specialists, ensuring workload distribution and alignment with corporate objectives.
- System Optimization: Oversee the development, maintenance, and enhancement of underwriting systems, ensuring functionality, compliance, and efficiency.
- Quality Assurance: Establish and monitor quality control standards for underwriting processes to ensure data accuracy, adherence to guidelines, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between underwriting, IT, and other departments to address system needs, resolve issues, and implement solutions.
- Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to identify, develop, and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within underwriting systems.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all underwriting systems and processes comply with applicable regulations and corporate policies.
- Team Development: Provide coaching, mentorship, and training to team members to build capabilities and foster professional growth.
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, IT, or a related field (required).
- Minimum of six years of experience in underwriting, quality assurance, or a related field
- Proven experience managing underwriting systems and quality control programs.
- Ability to work in an office environment with extended periods of sitting and using computer equipment.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with a focus on cross-functional collaboration.
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting systems, methodologies, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Analytical mindset with experience in data interpretation and reporting.
- Proficiency in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Familiarity with health insurance regulations, underwriting practices, and system architecture.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive complex projects to completion.
