Job Objective:
Manages personnel, procedures, and workflow in areas of responsibility. Takes responsibility for the organization and staffing levels within budgetary guidelines set by Director of all technical areas, with direct involvement in maintaining, and compliance with, all policies and procedures. Maximizes utilization of resources to increase efficiency and reduce costs in area of responsibility. Promotes teamwork and employee, patient, and physician satisfaction. Ensures compliance with CAP, Joint Commission, and the State of California requirements for all areas of responsibility.

Required: Bachelor's degree if hired after March 1, 2025
Licensure/Certification:
Required: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certification or equivalent; California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license
Experience:
Required: Six (6) years of CLS experience
Reports To: Director-Laboratory
Supervises: Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, ED Stat Lab, PM/Night Shift Supervisors, Lab LIS Coordinator Clinical Lab Scientists and Lab Technical Aides, or, Client Services staff, POCT Coordinator, Lab Services Supervisor as assigned

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Ability to lead by example, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and accountability in decision-making and actions, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other relevant software applications, Interpersonal and relationship management skills to develop effective, collaborative and productive working relationships and partnerships with all levels of management and staff in the organization, Mathematical and reasoning skills, Written and verbal communication skills
Essential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2. Manages workflow and staff in areas of responsibility, and works with supervisors/staff to ensure quality and achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.
3. Schedules staff within budgetary guidelines set by Director.
4. Works closely with Nursing, physicians, and physician offices to resolve patient issues as they arise; troubleshoots and resolve specimen integrity and labeling issues with appropriate supervisor/staff.
5. Keeps current all regulations and ensures compliance and continuous inspection readiness in areas of responsibility.
6. Ensures compliance with all hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures in areas of responsibility.
7. May serve as, or delegate responsibility of Laboratory Safety Officer.
8. Researches and resolves Incident Reports, and educates lab supervisors/ staff on process improvement.
9. Assumes responsibility of Lab Director in his/her absence.
10. Consults with professional staff regarding problems or interpretations of test results.
11. Participates in policy/procedure writing and enforcement of policies/procedures within areas of responsibility using CLSI and CAP guidelines.
12. Ensures compliance with all State and federal regulations.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
