GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming State Public Defender's Office is seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to serve as Managing Attorney in Evanston, WY. This role provides legal representation to indigent clients while also overseeing and mentoring a team of attorneys. The Managing Attorney will play a crucial role in case strategy, office leadership, and ensuring high-quality legal defense for all clients.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Manage & Lead - Oversee attorneys in a section or manage a legal program within the Public Defender's Office.
  • Supervise & Mentor - Train and support attorneys and interns, fostering professional development.
  • Case Management - Analyze cases, provide legal counsel, and formulate defense strategies.
  • Court Representation - Prepare legal documents and represent clients at trial and court proceedings.
  • Office Leadership - Handle personnel, administrative issues, resource management, and case flow.
  • Policy Development - Provide key input on office policies and procedures to improve case management.
  • Legal Research & Compliance - Stay current on legal developments and fulfill CLE requirements.


Qualifications
PREFERENCES: /**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to applicants who are active members of the Wyoming State Bar and licensed to practice as an attorney in this State.

**You must be licensed to practice law in Wyoming.
KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong ability to manage multiple cases and attorneys, prioritize tasks, and oversee office operations.
  • Extensive trial and hearing experience, with expertise in rules of evidence and criminal statutes.
  • Advanced knowledge of state, federal, and administrative criminal law.
  • Skilled in case strategy, personnel management, and legal research.
  • Ability to train and mentor attorneys, ensuring excellence in client representation.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

Juris Doctorate

Experience:

7+ years of relevant legal experience. Has recognized expertise in at least one area of law.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Requires membership in the State Bar as an Attorney qualified to practice law in this state.
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Travel required - as necessary by the caseload.
