Job Description

As a Managing Director, Investor Relations in the Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) Department, you will be responsible for defining, steering, and executing strategies to enhance the Fund's internal and external brand and reputation. This position provides business leaders with expert advisory and leads the development, production and publication of content in a variety of mediums across a variety of channels. It also owns relationships with critical stakeholders within or outside the organization.

This senior role requires a seasoned professional with a deep and proven track record in Investor Relations, an investor-focused fixed income role or a related field. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing a best-in-class Investor Relations function that will focus on communicating and engaging with the organization's global investors. They will work alongside senior leaders within PAC and Total Fund Management (TFM) teams to ensure consistent messages are effectively delivered to stakeholders. The right person will have expert knowledge of the role of investor relations, with a strong partnership mindset and in-depth understanding of the financial and investment markets.

Team Description

The individual in this role will be part of the Global Corporate Communications (GCC) team, which along with the other groups within PAC is responsible for building and protecting our reputation by sharing information about CPP Investments in an open and transparent manner with key audiences globally. We work collaboratively with investment departments to proactively identify and manage potential reputation impacts in our portfolio. In addition, the individual in this role will work closely with the Exposure, Leverage and Liquidity Management (ELLM) group within TFM which is responsible for the centralized management of total Fund exposure and Balance Sheet. The team enhances total Fund returns through optimizing trade-offs between exposures, leverage, and liquidity.

Accountabilities:

IR strategy development
  • Working in close partnership with Total Fund Management, establish an investor relations function, that will convey a strong, consistent and well-understood message to its investor base.

IR Planning
  • Develop the annual IR plan, including the planning and coordination of all investor calls and meetings, alongside key communication themes.
  • Develop an investor targeting program and manage the annual calendar of IR conferences and other events to provide regular contact with bond holders
  • Analyze investor trends and IR meeting history to identify targeted accounts and regions for increased focus.
  • Identify trends in investor activity across our five core currencies, identifying concentration risks that could create potential future spread volatility

Investor Engagement and Communications
  • Develop and execute a communication plan to provide regular updates on our strategy, performance, outlook, transaction summaries, and market developments to our investors (which will include managing a database of investors and identifying areas for improvements in our interactions with investors).
  • Participate in investor meetings, roadshows, conferences, and calls, ensuring timely and accurate follow-up with investors and internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain an interaction calendar to meet investors at suitable intervals, considering their profiles, preferences, and feedback
  • Prepare investor communications literature and presentations, slide show packs and roadshow materials
  • Production of our Annual Green Bond Impact Report which includes liaising and aligning across the organization, gathering bond and investment data from various teams.
  • Communicate effectively with investors post-transaction and provide relevant documents such as deal summaries, prospectuses, and term sheets
  • Maintain an IR contact inbox and manage all investor inquiries

Broad accountabilities:
  • Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive executive-level relationship management with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate on projects which continue to advance CPPIB's strategic priorities and build CPPIB's brand and reputation.
  • Provide strategic advice and counsel on critical issues to senior CPPIB executives to support CPPIB's mandate and thought leadership to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee development and management of long-, medium-, and short-term projects with a high degree of organization and attention to detail. Ensure flawless execution of materials development and announcements.
  • Manage the ongoing development of executive materials which may include analysis and recommendations, briefing materials, and other strategic communications and public affairs products.
  • Oversee ongoing management of the CPPIB's corporate narrative, ensuring key messages, product quality, and recommendations are developed with respect to the organization's diverse stakeholders and mandate. Develop and align communication and engagement strategies for significant initiatives, ensuring appropriate proactive communication strategies and content are in place.
  • As appropriate, own and manage relationships with critical external stakeholders including the bilateral sharing of key information to influence desired outcomes.
  • Conduct the necessary analysis and consultations necessary to deliver critical insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Recruit and retain high-integrity, high-performance and partnership-focused Public Affairs and Communications professionals.
  • Create a motivating work environment by providing regular performance feedback, development oversight, and mentorship to team members.


Qualifications
  • Proven track record as a senior Debt Investment Relations professional from within a large and complex organization.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, debt issuance programs, and investor engagement strategies.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute comprehensive communication plans. Proactive and organized, with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize with excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver content with a high level of accuracy
  • College or University degree in related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Demonstrating excellent judgement including managing sensitive information and/or juggling differing stakeholder perspectives or needs, as well as issues management.
  • Strong project management skills to ensure the efficient, timely and best-in-class delivery of communications materials.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills, and the ability to communicate persuasively.
  • Strong, demonstrated knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook Proficiency using AI software (Copilot)
