This role will lead the development of the Marketing Data Science and Analytics strategy, link the strategy with actionable roadmaps that facilitate the needs of the individual Groups/Services while establishing common capabilities that service the Bank. The role will accelerate our Marketing partners' predictive DnA journey from insights to fully, operational AI/ML-based solutions, enable simplification and a digital-first paradigm based on predictive DnA approaches (AI, ML), and be a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders on data science and analytics activities. The role will partner with CMOs, MCSI CDAO, Operational Group/Service leaders and LOB DnA teams to unpack their individual strategic objectives, lead the thinking and execution on the Data Science and Analytics capabilities across Marketing to support these strategic objectives while managing the operational delivery of committed outcomes.

  • Executes initiatives that develop data-driven insights on valuable opportunities with Marketing and business partners.
  • Develops and tests model-based proof of concepts and prototypes to assess feasibility and value-creation potential that address valuable business opportunities.
  • Leverages advanced analytics/AI to (1) Support marketing strategy (e.g., market sizing & segmentation) (2) Drive acquisition (3) Develop advanced data science capabilities such as cluster analysis (3) Customer insights including behavioural trends (4) Marketing effectiveness/MMM (Mixed media modelling), 5) Power BI/BR dashboards and reporting.
  • Expert in Google Marketing and deployment of capabilities (value-based bidding models, building reporting that combines marketing campaign data with business data ("Looker"), Google's next generation AI and machine learning innovations supporting digital targeting and Cyber controls.
  • Provides expertise in deployment of modern server-side analytics framework for both the US and Canada and required updates to US and CA campaign tagging architecture.
  • Develops, implements and deploys, in collaboration with business, Risk and Technology partners, production AI/ML-based solutions that will be leveraged by stakeholders to drive value by reducing cost, creating revenue or mitigating risk.
  • Provides expertise in upstream data engineering, data curation and data integrations in support of Marketing analytics and insights delivery; leveraging the Data Cloud to break down data silos, mobilize data, and achieve data-driven marketing analytics.
  • Provides trusted advisory services and expertise to internal partners that seek expert advice or oversight on initiatives for which they are leading development.
  • Provides BMO Financial Group representation to external Data Science & Analytics-related partnerships, agencies and Marketing forums (e.g., CMA, Forrester, ).
  • Strategically formulates new and creative ideas for leveraging the business's internal and external datasets to drive unique insights using AI/ML capabilities and joins in when needed to prototype, develop and formulate novel solutions.
  • Keeps abreast of discipline trends and provides insights to the data science efforts on leading data science and analytic practices, trends, design, learning and development cycles.
  • Works across domains, across organizations within a spirit of collaboration and partnership with other practitioners/leaders to shape solutions at all stages in the process, from ideation through delivery.
  • Provides advanced expertise on statistical and mathematical concepts for the broader DnA teams and is instrumental in helping the business continue its evolution into an analytical and data-driven culture.
  • Leads a high performing team of ~ 20 various digital marketing and analytics experts. Develops leaders, plans for succession, and fosters a high-performance culture
  • Mentors, guides, and develops the Data Science and Analytics Practice across multiple geographies.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition to recruit, evaluate, hire talent. Works across DnA leadership to invest in the talent within the organization.
  • Within the mandate of this role, promotes and supports the Bank's risk culture including ensuring employees understand their accountabilities for risk-taking activities, promoting an environment of open communication and effective challenge, and establishing the "tone from the top" through leading by example.

Qualifications:
  • Posses a university degree in Management Information systems, computer science, computer engineering or related. Advanced degree (e.g. MS, PhD) in a related field (e.g. Stats, Computer Science/Engineering)
  • Minimum 10 years progressive work experience in the Marketing, computer science or IT industry including technical leadership, project management, and management responsibilities.
  • 5+ years hands-on data science work experience; 5+ years managing a data science team.
  • Comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge in the areas of Marketing Technology platforms sufficient to be considered an expert in this area; extensive hands-on leadership of Advanced Analytics teams utilizing coding languages such as SQL, SAS, Python, R, and Unix; Well versed in Salesforce tools such as Marketing Cloud, Ad Studio, and Interaction Studio; experience with Marketing Automation tools such as Persado and Marketo; experience in Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics (certificates preferred)
  • Familiar with Marketing measurement and attribution solutions such as Marketing Mix Modeling, Multi-Touch Attribution, and/or Unified Measurement; able to influence the adoption of such solutions at scale across a large enterprise and lead the adaptation of these types of solutions going forward in a "cookieless" Marketing world
  • Well-developed presentation / analytical skills to: Provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas and creatively and precisely articulate ideas that involve interpretation, analysis and assessment
  • Experience with supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms and their application to large data sets
  • Relevant data engineering experience to architect/prototype solutions (e.g. ETL, apps, etc.)
  • Experience with statistical programming languages/packages (Python, R, SAS, Scipy, etc.)
  • Comfort working with the AWS-EMR and Hadoop eco-systems (Spark, MapReduce, Hive, etc.)
  • Ability to partner cross-domain to solve problems and drive to recommendations
  • Experience working in a fluid/start-up environment and with external clients is a big plus


Please note the target base salary range for this specific position is noted as a range from $190,000 CDN to $215,000 CDN.

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
